How many had Coleman had at 22?

Starts don’t mean much. Some players just develop a little later.
Just looking at the stats about 90 by the time of his 22 birthday Including 62 at Sligo and 12 at Blackpool. At 22 was his breakthrough season for us.

Patterson has had 39 at Everton and Rangers. I have not seen the breakdown but I expect at least half the 39 are as a sub. On this basis I am not ready to write him off. He is a mile off currently though but has some raw attributes

Yes people develop at different stages but starting games from an early age getting first team competitive football is a big boost to development and definitely does mean something. Patterson should of had a loan in the championship would of done him the world of good a full season starting there. Even tho he hasn’t been ready for first team football here and in a unsettled side struggling playing first team games alongside senior pros is much better than playing reserve/u23 football every week.

I don’t know what the standard of Sligo is, would it be better than youth/reserve in Scotland?

Coleman’s breakthrough season for us at 22 was also at RM and not at RB because of his defensive frailties at the time. It was also a much more settled and solid team that wasnt battling relegation each season. He was a mile off then in terms of RB.

Im a little surprised Patterson didn’t get a run out at RM when we had no wingers available.

22 today.

At what age is someone not a young prospect anymore?
After consuming as many Everton podcasts and forums as possible over the last 15 years, I have come to the conclusion that we may have some of the most consistently miserable, cynical, glass half-empty, negative supporters in World Sports.

Even watching live games, it has always struck me how quickly our supporters turn on the players (i'll never forget John Stones turning and yelling back at the abuse he was copping for daring to play out from the back)

It's so clearly toxic a lot of the time, and counterproductive to getting behind a club and it's players, and allowing them an environment where they can produce their best. Is there are way to fix it? Is it a cultural thing? Whether its Nathan Patterson or 777, our supporters seem to go out of their way to find as many possible negatives to whinge about as possible, and always seem one step away from abuse/catastrophising.

Yes he’s still raw and learning but I’d back him to make it at Everton.
