I have no dislike at all for the lad, he seems a nice enough kid and when he plays he always gives 100%, I just don’t think his 100% is enough to be a top level player..there’s no shame in that, there’s hundreds of players in the game who reach a level ..and that’s their level… I don’t know if he will progress and become the player some believe he will, I hope he does but I personally don’t see it in him.

I dont understand this logic, hes played 35 times for Premier League Everton and has 19 International caps, hes already a top level player.

Most of them games have been through necessity though, he’s not come in and nailed down his place in the team. Cleverley played many times for Everton and o think he has England caps.. Tom Davies played loads for us too… they’ve had decent careers out of the game at the top level but would never be considered top level players. Patterson will have a decent and long career, I just don’t think he’s premier league level and none of his performances so far have convinced me he is. But that’s just my opinion.

But in that level there are many levels.

I like the boy, hes young and he has things to learn, but people and I mean me, expect too much of young players, not everybody matures at the same level football wise.

If he was a knobhead or a sulk etc I could understand it. He seems neither

Usual two or three suspects boring this thread. Thought he did fine again yesterday, showing what most can see, potential and areas to improve. Good he’s getting some consistent game time.

Think he improved as the game went on. But it's been two years of the same discussions and debates. If we'd been run competently he'd have been able to have a move like Branthwaite to continue his development.

I think he's lacking in a lot of areas.

He's getting better each game he is playing, and building in confidence. Looks far stronger going forward than he does defensively and needs to work on that side of his game, there is nothing wrong with that at this stage of his development.

Thought he had a decent game yesterday, couple of times defended one on ones well against players who will have the better of most full backs. Attacked well as well.

Didn’t get dribbled past once yesterday despite being up against Son and Kulusevski.

Got brushed away by Kulusevski towards the end of the game but other than that he did mostly well.

That wasn’t being dribbled past though. And should 100% have been a foul, especially when compared with other challenges in the game.

The thing is I'm not sure he's getting better with games and suspect that playing at too high a level is hampering his development. Granted, he's only in due to our first and second choice RB's being injured but you'd like to think he'd be showing signs of improvement defensively and with his positional awareness.

Whips a cracking cross in tbf, I'd like to see him on the wing when we've got Calvert-Lewin and Beto up top.

Hes all we have with Shamus being injured - note Shamus is not making the bench now even ,,,,,
