2024/25 Nathan Patterson

Has it in him to improve and grow into the role, fact is the lad has 2 years left now coleman/young most likely be gone next season. When fit i would put him in now becuase if not good enough then atleast we can decide long term
If he gets his chance, he needs to just defend properly and not try and prove a point, particularly going forward and getting caught too far forward and too narrow, then getting riled and injuring himself sprinting after someone. Dyche will want this anyway, but stay in sensible positions, zero defensive mistakes, keep it simple, just stay in the side. Same as Myko did who was a rabbit headlights for a couple of months, then became really solid and consistent last year, all whilst never saying a word.

If he does want to express himself going forward, tough. Wait for the manager to instruct this, or more likely, a new manager to instruct this and set the team up to facilitate this. Or after a season of just being solid, move to a club that plays wingbacks.

Even ignoring injuries, he’s ticking the years off his career and doing nothing. He needs to build again right from the beginning. His reputation is on its arse. If he comes in and is rock solid defensively, couple of nice crosses from deep, Dyche will play him.

Get fit, get in the team, stay in the team through solid defending alone. Then assess where he wants to go from there. Sadly, bombing forward and leaving a clearly knock-carrying Tarks chasing balls in the channel and he’ll be behind Seamus, Young, Dixon and Garner by the end of the game.

I still have hope for some reason 🤷‍♂️

I think if he can maintain fitness and be provided a clear path to starting at right back on a regular basis even if he stutters initially, he could still establish himself as a decent player. He just needs to have time to actually hone his skills and to develop a rhythm of consistency playing in the league
Fitness in the Premier is cleary an issue under 3 managers now. Either he can cope or that's it for him at Everton.

Think you have to ask questions if he can’t get in the team ahead of Keane.
I ain't going to pretend that Patterson is a top player or even will be one, however I have an inkling it's a decision based more on footballing ability.

If it wasn't, some of the ludicrous decisions Dyche has made in terms of who plays at right-back wouldn't have taken place.

I just realised this is in the wrong thread. Wasn’t talking about Patterson. My bad.
