Confirmed Signing Neal Maupay

I disagree with pretty much all of this.

I agree with the principal that you don’t rush in young players from other countries like Onana but Maupay is 26 and has three seasons premier league experience - he’s ready to go and will instantly do better than Rondon because he’s a better player.

Experienced premier league players getting thrown in is different to your examples, Gareth Barry for example, started the day after he signed for us if I recall and was boss.
I agree that Maupay at his best is better than Rondon anno 2022. But there is a difference between Maupay at his best and a Maupay that has not started a competitive football match in more than 4 months.

Also, the reality that many seem to forget, is that with the current system and squad, Everton hardly create chances for its striker. Richarlison was more of a threat from wide positions. Calvert-Lewin scored once from open play in 1300 minutes last season. Rondon not scoring is not only because he is bad. Lewandowski would look awful in most matches as Everton striker.

It does not really matter if we play Rondon or Maupay as striker when the majority of Evertons shots will come from Gordon and Gray in bad positions.

Important to remember that we play Brentford. The most physical team in the league. They want a scrap. End to end stuff. Lots of freekicks and long throw-ins. Because they are world class on both offensive and defensive set pieces.

Brentford made a joke out of ten Hag when he selected a small United team last time they played at home. They can not wait to outmuscle and bully Everton tomorrow. I am sure they are worried when Lampard comes with his five foot tall new shiny toy.

There's surely something in the fact that Rondon played 90 mins on Tuesday. Did FL/KT know that Maupay was going to be available for Saturdays game?

Reports are he was at the training ground yesterday mate - if thats right then this could have been going on this week and that might have played into that thinking.

If a player is signed and only his registration needs to be submitted, he gets mentioned.

He didn't get mentioned, so he's not playing tomorrow.

I'd bet my house on it.
I would have thought that they would wait for an official club announcement rather than the manager doing it in a press conference

Am fine with this signing tbh, I think statistically he improves the team we could do with more players chipping in with roughly 10 goals a season.

What he does bring which I will like, is work rate and snide.

We lost all that with Richarlison I think, he will bring it back.

I'm not too disappointed in the signing because I know there is not a great deal of options around and he's a decent player. But the concern would be that Graham Potter has chosen an ageing Danny Welbeck to be ahead of Maupay this season and that doesn't necessarily bode well.

You said: "If it were that close, Frank would've talked about him."

He might not sign in the next hour, but if he signs tonight isn't that close? Lampard never, ever discusses transfer targets regardless of how close they are and I ask you to find me evidence of him doing it.

This guy is 3rd or 4th down the pecking order at his current club.
He hasn't even played this season!
He would go for free next season as he would've been in the last year of his contract.
If reports are correct Everton will match what Brighton paid for him even though he has had a less than 1 in 4 goal rate.
Most of his appearances have been as a sub.

I'm skeptical about this signing just as I was with Mcneil. I guess as fans we can only hope Frank can get something more out of both of them as we so desperately need some goals.

I have a fond memory of not so long ago when Rodriguez was pinging Hollywood balls to Richy who would either score or pass/cross to Dom to finish. Just in that moment, I thought about how we looked dangerous again. I miss that, sigh!
Who are the 3 strikers that have played more than him whilst at Brighton mate?

Think this is a shrewd signing. Is he brilliant? No, but for £15m we're getting somebody who can score goals and contribute to build up play.

Premier League:

Cenk Tosun: Goal every 255 minutes
Oumar Niasse: Goal every 278 minutes
Neal Maupay: Goal every 290 minutes
Arouna Kone: Goal every 302 minutes

If he's not signed by midday, but signed by tonight, it means that at the time of his press conference, it wasn't done.

Because if it were, heaven and earth would've been moved to get the registration in for noon.
