This is why all the hand-ringing and screaming at the sky that goes on in this forum regarding transfers is so painfully futile: we have no idea how we got to where we are, who we've tried for, why we have or haven't moved on. None at all.

We have no idea how effective or otherwise Thelwell is, or is being allowed to be by our S&P situation (which essentially amount to the same thing).

The only rational judgements we can make will be at the end of the window, and at the end of the season.

Fixed that for you mate - it's very simple...

Got to remember though that this is all from Sky.. unless I missed something and Sky arnt very reliable when it comes to Everton…70 mil Zaha bid

Edit just checked and the bobble saying it’s true

I agree that Maupay at his best is better than Rondon anno 2022. But there is a difference between Maupay at his best and a Maupay that has not started a competitive football match in more than 4 months.

Also, the reality that many seem to forget, is that with the current system and squad, Everton hardly create chances for its striker. Richarlison was more of a threat from wide positions. Calvert-Lewin scored once from open play in 1300 minutes last season. Rondon not scoring is not only because he is bad. Lewandowski would look awful in most matches as Everton striker.

It does not really matter if we play Rondon or Maupay as striker when the majority of Evertons shots will come from Gordon and Gray in bad positions.

Important to remember that we play Brentford. The most physical team in the league. They want a scrap. End to end stuff. Lots of freekicks and long throw-ins. Because they are world class on both offensive and defensive set pieces.

Brentford made a joke out of ten Hag when he selected a small United team last time they played at home. They can not wait to outmuscle and bully Everton tomorrow. I am sure they are worried when Lampard comes with his five foot tall new shiny toy.
Are you saying it doesn't matter if we don't buy a striker?

Average striker by premier league standards but will score goals, from what Iv heard he’ll work his arse off & is proper snide, similar temperament to Rico, 15 M is alright, not me first choice but in the grand scheme of things it’s a forward innit??

The way you have to look at it is we're making a non functional squad place functional - i see him as taking Tosuns squad place and providing us with an option we don't and didn't have realistically.

Keeping Gordon - i still think we need another inside forward, not an out and out 9.

Because Welbeck is a better player and Maupay, across 3 PL seasons, averages fewer goals per minute than Niasse and Tosun.
That’s weird because Maupay has scored 10 goals in a season in the PL before but Welbeck has never scored more than 9 despite playing for a dominant United side and Arsenal.

Gives us the option to go two up top in a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2 without him just reproducing DCL. Tactical flexibility is probably going to be important with 5 subs this season.
He seems like he'd mostly play alongside DCL or another striker rather than as a lone forward.
