The idea that he just isn’t capable of scoring is a bit weird, because he’s consistently shown that he can in the past. He’ll never be prolific but he’s capable of getting a reasonable amount of goals if given chances. His confidence will be low at the moment but hopefully that can start to pick up now and if he can get one to give him a lift he might kick on and get a few.

I’ve noticed across the whole season that he doesn’t make runs into dangerous areas, often times the ball goes across the face of the box and he’s 10 yards behind the play and just jogging, not anticipating where the ball will go. I don’t think that’s a confidence issue either, it’s an intelligence issue. I think that’s really poor centre forward play and explains why he very rarely makes double figures even when he plays more or less every game.

Yeah like I said, he’ll never be prolific at this level and im more than happy for him to be one of them quiz question players who disappears at the end of this season. Getting 8-9 goals like he has before really isn’t bad though, if he’d done that this season I’d have been well happy. He won’t do that now obviously, but he clearly is capable of getting another 4 or 5 if things go right for him, the talk of him just not being a striker or whatever is weird, it’s like people have forgotten that he has actually had a career before the handful of games he’s started for us.

Doesn't even look close to having a shot never mind scoring his positioning is terrible can't hold the ball up can't run into the channels because he lacks pace or get in behind defenders gets bullied up top thought he would be a decent signing coming off the bench but he's woeful.

I agree that Maupay isn’t going to be prolific. But there’s little things that he does that prevent him from getting goals. At about the 20th minute mark mcneil whips that great cross that bounces across the 6 and if you see the side angle replay, you’ll see him stood pointing backwards. He needs to gamble on those

I agree with this, much like what happened with Dom someone needs to tell him to operate with the penalty area, particularly the 6 yard box and try and get on the end of one these crosses.

There were at least 3 against Leeds that were along the floor and he should be competing for these regardless of his size.

I mean he literally had a header cleared off the line in the last game. This is the type of thing I mean, this weird insistence that he hasn’t set foot in the box since he signed. Again I’m not trying to argue that he is or has been great, just that he really is a striker who over his career has a pretty decent track record of scoring goals.

I think part of the problem is that he’s a very unorthodox striker. Normally, a Premier League striker is either big and strong, or quick.

Maupay is neither, and as such he’s hard to get a handle on. I wonder if both Lampard and Dyche have felt similar, and have found it difficult to get the best out of him.

His numbers from previous seasons speak for themselves - he’s clearly effective if not prolific - and there have certainly been a few flashes for us.

His goal was well taken, I thought he was very unlucky with his header on Saturday - and he clearly has value for his sh*thousery… but really, we should be able to draw on more than that for praise for him by now.

Ye but a league 2 player would work just as hard could literally of stuck anyone who's fit on and they would of done as much as him he's useless
I spoke to someone the other week who has a minor role at a fairly low level club and his throwaway opinion was Everton could have done worse than picking up a big raw strong lower level championship or league one type striker just to give us the option of playing the target man for minimal outlay . Watching maupay at the weekend give us what was effectively just hard work with no particular goal threat and no out ball through pace or height I could see the logic of the comment .

Hopefully maupay can get himself in the box and get on the end of something Saturday and that could really boost his confidence.

If you look at the teams in the league whose recruitment is the smartest based on the volumes of data they pour over, Brighton and Brentford are right up there. Maupay has played for both and has posted acceptable numbers for both teams. There's a decent player in there, but (as always) we've seen that and signed the lad without any regard for how Everton actually play themselves. He's dramatically unsuited to how Lampard set us up and, so far, how Dyche has set us up. I feel sorry for him. He isn't a bad player, but we are making him look like one.

Not sure on this as it’s not complicated to make sure you get in the six yard box when a cross comes in. He just doesn’t do it. That’s just basic football nous.
