2022/23 Neal Maupay

I spoke to someone the other week who has a minor role at a fairly low level club and his throwaway opinion was Everton could have done worse than picking up a big raw strong lower level championship or league one type striker just to give us the option of playing the target man for minimal outlay . Watching maupay at the weekend give us what was effectively just hard work with no particular goal threat and no out ball through pace or height I could see the logic of the comment .

Hopefully maupay can get himself in the box and get on the end of something Saturday and that could really boost his confidence.
While we were raiding Burnley in the summer we could of quite easily taken Wieghorst on loan for the season.
We could of, and did do much worse then him with Maupay and wasted 15m and a contract, when all we would of used up is a loan slot..

Well yeah he is hardly built for the role.

He does seem to do a bit better with actual teammates around him though. Under Lampard he was basically stood miles away from everybody else.
Maupay may be many things - a snide, works hard, gets under opponents' skin.

A lone striker he is not. He's 5 feet tall with average (at best) hold up abilities. He's either a second striker or I'd rather have anyone else playing up top alone.

Tbf, Brighton's style of play seems to breed one-in-five strikers. It's not their centre-forwards who bag most of their goals, it's their midfielders e.g Mitoma, March and Groß.
True, but I'm not sure I could name team in this division where Maupay would thrive. If he had the ability to link effectively with those players you mentioned, he probably wouldn't have lost his place.

There's only 4 years between the two.

At Simms age, Maupay was doing a lot more. At 21, Maupay scored 10 in 37 for Brighton in the Prem - 7 of them as a sub.

Maupay's conversion rate at Brighton was better than Richarlison's and Calvert-Lewin.

I still think all of this;

He's just not the right profile for this Everton team.

Not many would be.

Still, when Calvert-Lewin isn't fit, I'd be starting Maupay with Simms the option off the bench. Leeds the blue print, rather than Liverpool...
Simms has been out on loan & is a natural goal scorer all through his youth process, he has not had a 90-minute game as yet for us ..... Maupay has had games = 1 goal ..... as it has been stated probably better as a no 10 ..... or the pair of them on the bench when DCL returns .... Simms cost not a lot too.....

I don't believe that Maupay has been given a decent chance yet and so I'm not ready to write him off by any means.

Let's face it, under the stewardship of Lampard we could of had Haarland playing up front and we still wouldn't have scored - no chances were being created as we spent the best part of two minutes getting out of our own half through a series of tedious side/back passes.

Maupay was probably as shocked as Goodison Park when McNeil started to provide crosses into the box.

I agree with many on here that he's not a straight replacement for DCL and can't be expected to lead the line in the same way but he's here, he's available to play and we may as well get used to him rotating with Simms.

Ye but a league 2 player would work just as hard could literally of stuck anyone who's fit on and they would of done as much as him he's useless
39 plus thousand give him a good applause, did you go because you would know that wouldn't you ... maybe 39 thousand clapped him for nothing not saying he's great but he did alright Saturday..

‘Aim for the little fella in the distance’ was never going to be a successful tactic but I can’t see him scoring much even with more players supporting him. He’s just not good enough at this level.

I go every week mate so yes I also applauded him but he didn’t do an awful lot other than run about that’s not good enough need more than that he’s crap saturdays performance aside if Coleman didn’t score that goal which was a great goal but a bit of a freak goal we’d be fuming about the result and his performance but cause we come away with 3 points your view on his performance is different I thought he was crap and should of come off earlier people around me was saying the same.
