Funny how Man City are with the same kit maker yet they keep this badge:

If you look at the badges of most football teams in Europe the designs have become a lot simpler in recent years. I think that is mainly from a marketability and brand recognition point of view.
The more people that recognise our badge and the more money that comes into the club the better, even if does look like a beehive.

We could have simplified to this:

inside a crest and it would have been fine.

I do not get this insistence by Everton to have '1878' on the badge. The age of the club/when we are formed doesn't really matter. The wreaths mean far more, they had actual meaning.

Can't quote your post on my phone birkenheadblue.
Your right it is amateurish ****e, probably led by Nike. If you look at the simplification of Arsenals badge and ours it is defo because of Nike, the similarities are too much of a coincidence. if it brings in more money I don't care what it looks like, up to a point.

Thing is though, Arsenal simplified theirs and it still looks decent! (It actually looks better than the old one imho, though some may disagree). It has some degree of subtlety, and looks like some effort went into designing it...

Very much unlike ours.

Looking at it on the OS I think it's growing on me and it looks good in black. Maybe because it's so simple it's exaggerates it's clumsiness when it's blown up?

I have no problem with a simplified badge. I just happen to think this simplified badge looks ****! Back to the drawing board and actually consult the fans and listen to their feedback.

Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea, Fulham, Norwich, Stoke, Swansea, Spurs and West Brom seem to have updated to simple designs. I quite like the Arsenal and Spurs ones.

Maybe we could have had 'Everton' at the top of the shield and dropped the tower further down? It would have seemed to have been a better use of the space available. And, if it didn't look too cluttered, maybe '1878' could be split to sit on top of wreaths. Any chance you could sketch it HSD?

Only 3 other clubs have the year they formed on their badge - Liverpool, Stoke & Reading.

As I said, the year doesn't need to be on the badge, it's only been on since 2000. The wreaths and the motto we had for 50+ years.

They are in a difficult position. There probably are logistical issues why we needed a rebrand and if they'd gone to an agency it would have cost hundreds of thousands and they'd be accused of wasting money. The consultation process could have been an exercise in good PR though, where fans could feel involved and listened to. Maybe they had deadlines? Maybe they feared that designing it by committee would produce a more diffuse vision? Maybe they thought that hardcore fans would kick off whatever they did and make the process miserable for everyone?

The design isn't that slick but it isn't the worst thing I've ever seen either. Maybe the reaction is partly to do with so many big changes happening all at once at the club and fans feeling helpless? Did they have to change the logo this season? They have been working on it since August but did they need to officially adopt it until the fans had had their say? The valid point was made on Toffeeweb that if it was any other industry the company would seek to immediately appease it's customers with an about-turn or compromise, whereas the club will probably stick to it's guns. Will supporters really stop coming to games because they don't like the badge? Maybe not, but feeling like your views don't mean anything to something that is such a big part of your life probably is enough for fans to turn off.
