I staggered at the new badge. I didn't like the old one because of the cartoon-like 1878 and name under the crest, but I never in all my days thought they would actually remove the wreaths and the motto that is supposed to embody everything we stand for. It's kind of appropriate in a way...our motto underscoring that piece of crap crest would just not be logical.

The reason why we hadn't sold enough merchandise isn't because of a difficult to reproduce crest, it's because we have got just about the worst marketing team in the league.

emailed this to Elstone and the main club email address (also BCC'd in the Echo Sports Desk)

I am writing to express my disgust at the new badge foisted upon Evertonians by the powers that be at the club, in the hope that you take notice of the huge weight of opinion and disappointment currently pouring forth from Everton fans everywhere.

The new badge is an amateurish, ugly, cartoonish and cheap looking abomination of a design, which has the appearance of something which could have been knocked up on Microsoft Paint in a matter of minutes.

I do not know whether this was designed in-house, or whether outside designers were brought in, but either way, it is embarrassing to think that not only was this actually submitted as a finished piece of work, it was presumably SELECTED from several possibilities. One can only imagine how poor the alternatives were.

I (along with the vast majority of Evertonians) understand that change is sometimes required, whether for aesthetic or commercial purposes, but this change has thrown away several features of the badge important to Everton's history and heritage, and left us with something that looks utterly childish and unprofessional.

The badge has been met with almost universal condemnation from the Everton fan base - a fact that CANNOT have escaped your attention by now, since the launch on Saturday afternoon.

The fact that this new "creation" was not officially unveiled to the fan base until it was a fait accompli is rather telling. However, given that the design was leaked some time ago, and the reaction then was very much as it is now, it points to a worrying arrogance that the launch still went ahead with that opinion unheeded.

As of this writing, in just a few short hours, nearly 8,000 people have signed an online petition expressing their displeasure at this new design, and almost every comment on the club's social network pages is unremittingly negative. The national media have even picked up on what a poor job was done with the redesign.

I write this email in the small hope that you and your fellow decision-makers at the club see sense, and do whatever can be done to rectify this enormous commercial and historical misstep.

my effort too...

I have just sat frozen with disgust at the new badge. The fans forums have been going crazy since that appalling, childish design was leaked weeks ago, but I hoped it was a fake created by a 10 year old for a school art project.

Apart from looking cheap, amateurish and not representing what the fans expect from our club, the removal of the motto which is supposed to embody everything we stand for is unacceptable by the standards of any fan (and if you don't believe me, check out the forums).

Things change, of course, but this is a very very poor effort. Please take notice of the online petition, the negative social media, and feelings of fans on the forums.

Why the heck didn't the club post some designs on the website and ask fans to chose their favourite rather than using focus groups and supposed fans representatives?

I saw one poll on the forum...less than 4% of voters said they liked the badge and 80% of voters said they would buy LESS merchandise because of the horrible crest.

If Everton are truly a club who think they are in touch with the fans, then this design will be pulled.

Let's be honest, the club motto of 'nil satis nisi optimum' or nsno for short, was constantly used by the bill bashers as stick to beat the club with.
So the club removed it.

Well it's turkey horrible. The only thing I can say is that my 2 year old who knows the old badge as ebertun looked at it and said! What's that. Is it ebertun

As the club motto outlines, nothing but the best is good enough, and supporters are informing the club of that fact via the various social media channels. Often accused of poor communication with fans, this latest episode threatens to drive a permanent wedge between the two. Presently, Everton supporters are the only people investing in this sleeping giant; alienating them is not wise.

Its easily sorted. Wait for the shirt to be released and then have our own replica shirts with our old badge commissioned from the East. Cheaper shirts, design we want and the message to the board.

Wow ! I wonder just who's behind this media campaign, never saw this coming. LOL!
The metro no doubt will follow this up a lot more cynically.

Should that not be the case, should we settle for second best. The problem with our fan base is that too many have had the hope sucked out of them
