Galtier I want but he doesn't play attacking football either and I don't think 442 works in England anymore so would think he would need to switch things up.

I think its easier for managers like Howe and Potter to do well in the lesser divisions shall we say as a lot of clubs play dour prehistoric football so if you are a good coach that can get your team playing attacking football you are half way there imo.

The problem I think is when they reach the PL they then still play that way with lesser players against teams like Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs etc who are just simply stronger and they dont have a Plan B nor the finances/pull to bring in CL quality players who can still play that attacking football but to a higher level if that makes any sense.

For me teams like us only get better by being disciplined and tough to beat and going from there if you can finish in Europe and bring in better players you can slowly evolve your team - Leicester went from a contain and counter with Vardy/Mahrez to a now more possession based team with Maddison, Tielemans, Barnes etc.

I think going straight to a Potter with players like Sigurdsson, Slomes, Iwobi etc is asking for trouble whereas if someone like Nuno or even Galtier who doesn't play swashbuckling football btw can make us compact but do what Carlo couldn't and have us transitioning from defence to attack i.e counter attack much better / quicker I think thats our best chance of "relative success" of say 6th-7th as I don't think we are good enough for anything higher or to win a trophy at present.
Not sure of Galtier’s style of football, but it obviously works for him, 2 standout jobs at St Etienne & Lille.

But surely if your hire potter it’s not about the first season or probably the 2nd, it becomes more long term and will take time for him to implement his style going forward.

I’d rather finish 10th with potter next season than 7th will Nuno. We know what we’re are getting Witt Nuno IMO. I just think it will be a reallly bad appointment, because defensive football rarely works long term. And if we buy players to fit his system. Abs it doesn’t work. Do we then hire another defensive coach.

I think with a number of the old players leaving in the next year or two. Maybe it’s time a new start and system. We also havde some very good youngsters coming through, so let’s start a fresh, with brands and a young coach can build something. And if potter isn’t the man, then we replace with a similar style manager, to keep continuity. Instead of this constant changing.

After saying all that, I think It will be Nuno and we will be back here in 18 months. Which could also be the case with potter, though a do think a coach that is trying to play entertaining/attacking football will get a bit more time. Especially from the fans.

TalkSport knows nothing about anything, but I'm still hopeful.

Nuno would simply be an awful choice - it doesn't mean we still won't end up with someone awful, but at least there'd be hope.
They’ve been good for us for ages mate. Got the Zirkzee thing but other than that mostly spot on

Well he plays 2 strikers and 2 attack minded wide players, though I have seen much of the team, so will take your word for it. But on paper it looks a positive formation

by what measure?
Well it’s a mix of factors for players, isn’t it? Some tangible, some not. The league we’re in, how we do in that league, our history, our ambition, our revenue, what we pay players, what players at the club think about life at the club.

If you count us as 8th most attractive in the PL, it’s debatable whether you’d find 12 clubs on the continent that can beat our offering. You could scratch together four or so in Spain perhaps, about seven between Italy and Germany. One, realistically, in France. That’s about it.

It depends on the player, of course, but I think we’re up there.

Would think Thursday would be a deadline for NES, they won't want it conflicting with the Eng/Scot game, and very unlikely an announcement gets made over the weekend.

If it was Benitez on the other hand.........they'd announce that at kick-off on Friday.

Feels like Everton have doubts...

As I was saying over the weekend;

9th June: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...ak-down-over-backroom-staff-demands-ktlf7mmvl

He'd be Crystal Palace manager now if they agreed to pay for his entourage.

Suggests to me this bloke wasn't even our preferred candidate.

.... or 'the tail is wagging the dog' - Koeman like, and Nuno Santo is making some rather odd demands. A guess based on very credible reports as to why Crystal Palace swerved him.

On a hiding to nothing getting Benitez in. Fans will turn on him instantly. It'll turn sour very very quickly. He'd need a massive undefeated run for this to beyond Christmas.
