I dont like Benitez, do I hold his small club comment against him? Too right I do,I have a great dislike for Emlyn Hughes and hes been dead years, but, but we got Sheedy, Beardsley, Harper etc what about them? Well they hadn't left the rs dropped down to division one turning out for Hereford or someone, but he loves the city, he lives local, we aren't using Rightmove to employ managers, if he is this wondrous technical genius what was he doing at Newcastle and China,Spurs,Arsenal, Leicester etc all changed managers the last couple of years how come he wasnt taken by them
He has managed big teams though, the small club thing doesn’t bother me to much, in the dark times of the 90s and early 2000s did we act like a big club?. Money was always an issue and Moyes did great with little of it. Now that isn’t the case the backing is there financially to make us a proper big club. Imo Benitez is the best of a average bunch of managers available, I’d have liked us to take a risk and given it to Dunc, but if that isn’t the way I’d prefer Benitez over, potter,Howe,Nuno and who ever else has been mentioned.

The boards job is to appoint the best fit for the current squad of players mate.

This idea that they should be appointing someone who the fans "like" is exactly the sort of nonsense why we have failed post Moist.

"Oh that Martinez won an FA Cup fans will have him"

"Oh that Silva plays good football the fans will be made up with him"

"Oh that Carlo is a massive name the fans wont boo him no siree"

I dont necessarily want Benitez but at present he's the best of an average bunch when you see the likes of Howe, Potter, Lampard, Big Duncs names banded around.

Nuno and Galtier are the only two outside of Conte that wouldnt be so divisive and one of those wants his own staff which jobs for the boys Kenwright wont accept and the other hasn't been approached and has only done well in France which is a sub par league minus 3 or so sides.
In bold no full attendances to BOO him - he would have definitely go stick ...Covid saved him- the embarrassment to match those embarrassing home games lost

It's a smoke screen by the board, so we welcome Roberto back with open arms ..... no problem with that Roberto with loads of funds this time is the way forward -
You can’t be serious. He was atrocious. And the football was terrible, I think there was a stat showing we didn’t have a shot on goal in the opening 20mins fir something like 15 games on the bounce, passing it a long the back all game and getting nowhere.

And Moshiri by the looks of things will make the decision. I’d be amazed If he hired a guy he’s already sacked.

People are blinkered because he managers a world class group of players. Koeman got Holland to the nations league final, shall we get him back

That's a pretty fair point. Leadership is not always about doing what everyone wants, but about evaluating the options and making the right call. If he makes the right call and Benitez is successful the fans will soon come around. The process has to be, get the right person in, and the fans will come on board, as opposed to, find the person fans want and then wait for them to be successful.

There are a couple of issues attached with this though. Firstly what makes Benitez the right call? And will this be communicated properly to supporters? Front up a bit if you're on the board. Secondly, if you get those big calls wrong, as a leader, pretty quickly you lose respect from other stakeholders. I'd probably say that is where Moshiri is now. This isn't his 1st big call, and it's not his big call he has got wrong. I'd also say, he seems to make decisions without doing the necessary diligence (or so it appears).

But look, we finished within 8 points of the CL last season and got over the double the points of the side relegated (31 points more). That gives an indications of the priorities. If he feels Benitez can close that gap next season, he should make the appointment without thinking about it. Fans will soon follow. The question is, do we believe Benitez will be able to do that?

What's the basis for that then mate? What do you think Benitez can/will achieve the others won't say next season and beyond?

I don't want him, I don't rate him, and I don't like him... but the moment Benitez gets announced as Everton manager I will see him as exactly that. An Everton manager - no harping on about what he said about us years ago (all managers do stuff like that to increase their popularity with their own fans btw). I'll back him until I see enough evidence in performances and results that justifies otherwise.

seen a few posts on here suggesting we should be happy with the current favorites as there is really not much to choose from in available managers. Frightening! the following are currently available based on us being in the Premiere league and having cash - :

Galtier
Favre
Fonseca
Garcia
Conte

Gallardo
Potter

Thats just like off the top of my head - all been discussed in the previous 1421 pages...

Given that list it seems almost like Everton's board is a kakistocracy (look it up) who's Directors are acting in a negligent way.
Kakistocracy - I did look it up it means exactly what it says, the clue is in the root 'kak'

Yes, I believe he will close the gap on the sides to get relegated

I never said he hadn't managed big clubs,I said he doesn't seem to have been approached by anybody considering hes classes as a genius, as for Ferguson he did ok in a few games but I doubt you could get a season out of emotion, the list of managers published is a very small section of what's available if the will is there, moneywise there is very little difference between clubs now,Brighton splashed out £40m was it on a player and turned down the same amount for a player

Sometimes we confuse fan's emotions with players/manager's. They are rarely the same. Dave Hickson upset and shocked many blues when he joined the RS. He remains a revered Everton idol. My two sons are now arguing and disagreeing about the potential arrival of the FSW. Hickson and FSW have something in common. They are (were) pursuing a living.
