TBF I think most sane people’s objections are that he fairly obviously isn’t the best on his merits as a coach; in fact he’s probably the least deserving (based on recent performance) of any of our previous managers.
Fair enough. How much do you weight his recent relatively poor record vs his whole body of work. That’s the question.

as said I’d be interested in Ten Hag and also Potter. Nuno is coming across as a prima Donna which his body of work doesn’t quite warrant.

I didn’t grow up in Liverpool getting stick from RS fans every day so easy for me to say, but-

I think we’re playing into the small club/little brother mentality if we allow his RS ties to discount him.

we’ve said on here many times that the People’s Club sentiment stuff only goes so far and we have to be “ruthless” in moving on loyal servants of the club if it means putting a better side on the pitch.

So here we are, let’s get on with it.

If Rafael is the best on the merits as a coach, or the least-bad if you prefer, then get him. So what if he was a Red. If we’re not considering him for that reason then we’re harming ourselves.

The RS angle is overblown. If it was Rodgers set to take over from Leicester would anyone care that he managed them and be up in arms?

It's not just about his belittling comments towards us. It's also the fact that he's past his sell-by. Done a mediocre job at Newcastle which his successor has matched and had a disastrous spell in charge of a Chinese club in his big pay role. Hasn't won anything of merit in 7 years and his style of football us utterly turgid.

If we won’t appoint Benitez because he insulted us when managing our fiercest rivals, then he was right all along.

Oh, bore off.

My own opinion is I think if we appoint Benitez Moshiri has reflected on the last 5 or so years and realised that he got shut of Alladyce too quickly due to fan pressure when in reality Alladyce did a better job based on the squad he had to work with than all of Martinez, Silva, Koeman and Ancelotti.

He's probably reached the point where he's thought "im the bloke spending the dough and every manager ive appointed to keep you happy has failed costing me millions so we are getting someone in who I think will steady the ship whilst BMD gets built".

I still think its paper talk and a left field appointment could very well happen.

People don’t seem to understand that the bloke has billions tied into us and he’s seen that investment come perilously close to going down the swanny twice. He’s also seen what he thought was one of the best managers in the world improve this group of players to tenth. Why on earth would he trust this group with a manager like Graham Potter who some fans are calling for? Or want to be burned by a Conte or Galtier who might just do what Ancelotti did.

His list was probably:

Keep us in the league until BMD
Push us into Europe
Develop players
Be willing to work in FFP constraints
Don’t run off somewhere else after a season

I doubt whether the fans like him or not is irrelevant to Moshiri.

Blue circle | "The Everton Board of Directors spoke with Christoph Galtier regarding the vacant Everton position before it was offered to Rafael Benitez.

Galtier wanted all of his coaching staff but Bill Kenwright didn't want Duncan Ferguson to lose so talks broke down."

If true, that is an absolute joke!

This is what gets to me. Dunc has survived the last 5 manager’s but is blameless and seemingly has a job for life.

There is quite clearly only one option left. We obviously cant have Benitez. We also cant have other contenders as they don't want Big Dunc as assistant. So we go for Duncan as the main man and see where we go. Who knows he may actually be the one.

No this isn't true at all!

We would be harming ourselves by getting him because he would be a massively divisive character who would stand zero chance of winning the fans over.

This needs to be the only point that people focus on. How can people not see it?

All this talk of small clubs, being a red, people being OK with him, still a good manager etc etc etc, none of this matters one iota because a huge portion of our fans will not take to him and believe it or not that IS important and that issue is NOT going away.

To paraphrase the bloke, we need to look at the facts here. He would be on a hiding to nothing, as would appointing Moyes or Martinez. Any of those three would be a hugely idiotic appointment fraught with all kinds of mayhem.

You simply have to give a new manager a fighting chance of succeeding. It will not be possible with any of those three as rightly or wrongly their cards are already marked.

The RS angle is overblown. If it was Rodgers set to take over from Leicester would anyone care that he managed them and be up in arms?

Some would, but certainly no to the same level as he is not tainted by the RS as by and large his time there wasn't that much of a success.

It's ok saying Rafael has the record but what good is that if he alienates half the club, is a control freak and one or two loses and he is on shaky ground? As I said last night it's another sticking plaster to a long term issue. Rafael WAS a good coach he is now on the wane, and he doesn't fit what we need. We went through this with Carlo, just appointing a name won't work on it's own. He would never be accepted by myself and a large section of the fanbase. That's a very bad starting point when we need a squad rebuild and results are going to be up and down.

he won the Italian Cup and the Italian Super Cup after that, and also took newcastle up as champions since then. He's an outstanding manager, ask the geordies if they'd have him back. And he only left there two years ago

Who gives a shiny one what those clueless biffs think? They have a weird love in with anything related to Liverpool football club so they made him a cult figure before he’d even managed a game. You’re looking really, really weird in here going round the houses to make your case for El Fat y Swèaty.

This was Alladyces team at Anfield against RS when we drew 1-1

Pickford
Kenny Holgate Williams Martina
Rooney Davies Gana Siggurdsson
DCL Niasse

He took that team to 8th in the aftermath of Koeman/Walsh gate.

Martinez had us bottom half for 2 seasons back to back with a side consisting of Lukaku, Deloufeu, Barkley, Barry, Jags, Baines, Coleman, Distin

Silva had a team that had the likes of Richarlison, Digne, Mina, Gana, improved DCL and struggled

Carlo had those above minus Gana with a James Rodriguez, allan, Doucoure and Godfrey and finished 12th and 10th.

Like him or not Alladyce is pound for pound the best performer we've had since Moyes. I just hope if Benitez or whoever else comes in and over achieves the board dont cave in to petty fans demand of "we want a stylist".
