So Rodgers would be more accepted because he threw a title away and was otherwise a flop and Rafael not because he won a CL and an FA Cup?

Would you not rather have a winner than a loser?

What I want is totally irrelevant which is what I have been saying all the way through this. The majority of opinions is what matters.

Personally I would not want either purely because I think Benitez is a spent force and Rodgers is kind of weird, however I do think Rodgers would be given a chance with our fans whereas Benitez absolutely will not.

Whether I agree with that or not is not important, it is just a fact. The fans won't take to him so don't appoint him. I honestly don't think it's that hard!

Rodgers got Swansea up and then finished 11th, almost won the league with Liverpool, went to Celtic and won the lot then won the lot again, took over Leicester and then had them challenging near the top and winning silverware. In what world can you compare Benitez´s last ten years with that?

Won UEFA Cup, Coppa Italia, Super Coppaitaliana and The Championship.

Defending Rafael Benitez is not a hill I’m willing to die on but…..he’s won 2 major trophies (top 5 league trophy or European title) and 2 minor trophies in the last 10 years. If he’d won much more he wouldn’t really be interested in the job. Think Carlo was the outlier here.

He’s also won more than most of the other sensible candidates (I.e. not the likes of Conte or Simeone). Galtier is probably the only candidate with more recent success.

Like I said Benitez is the wrong candidate. Nothing to do with ability or his character. It would just be a divisive decision due to his previous managerial positions. A decisive appointment is not needed.
Well the EFC board is definitely in agreement with you there!

well, there's that (to rebut charges that he's gone off the boil), and, er, oh yes the champions league finals, the championships in Spain, the Europa Cup win, the cups in Italy....

None of this matters!

How many times have I got to say it? Stop regurgitating his achievements like you love him!

He could win every trophy going for me, if the fans don't want him they don't want him and it would be madness to go against that.

It is so basic!

There are other good candidates besides Rafael Benitez but I would urge us to get over this jibe he made (and guess what, we were acting like a small cloob the way Moyes set us up in those big away games). All he did was pander to the LFC fan base nothing much more than that.

The problem here is that too many people are obsessing over Liverpool instead of loving Everton.

…his being an ex-Liverpool Manager isn’t so much an issue, it’s his absolute belittling of the club and pandering to the Cult that I don’t think should be forgiven.

Rowing back on it now saying he meant to call us a ‘small team’ is an insult to intelligence.

I actually think he’s a decent manager but we have to maintain our self-respect.

I wouldn’t be happy about Benitez but he does have a decent cv. Reservations are he’s not done much in recent years and I also want to see some good football from the team. I was prepared to grind it out with Carlo but Benitez will not get such patience from the fans.

From that perspective it’s a bizarre appointment but I get that on paper he looks like a safe pair of hands once emotion is taken out of it.

This is a quality post.

Added to that rodgers would play football the goodison fans could take to. I worry about Rafael in this department.

Can't handle all this revisionism about BFS and Silva on here. We wanted Silva before BFS but couldn't get him. fireman Sam came in and did a job, the football was exasperating and he behaved like a woman's front bottom! Silva was a tactical breath of fresh air but as always a risk, and one that did not pan out. That last Facht does not make BFS any better.
We went from dour football and utter boredom to an exciting possibility to move forward - Everton need a coach to move them forward now, not one to take them backwards. If you want to break the top 6 and win stuff don't hire a manager who was last successful over a decade ago.
