Rodgers got Swansea up and then finished 11th, almost won the league with Liverpool, went to Celtic and won the lot then won the lot again, took over Leicester and then had them challenging near the top and winning silverware. In what world can you compare Benitez´s last ten years with that?

Winning the Europa League and finishing 3rd with Chelsea, despite enormous pressure from the fans who were on his back every week.

Winning the Coppa Italia and the SuperCoppa Italiana for the first time in 24 years with Napoli, going further in Europe than any of his predecessors for 25 years, no one has still got further than Rafael in Europe for Napoli. Created an immense squad and built the foundations which they are still benefiting from today.

Made Newcastle an established Premier league side. Won the championship etc etc

I see.
sadly, I take a different view. if he gets us to a champions league final, then the lads will just have to deal with it in the best way they can.
He wont though will he? And even if he did he was theirs before he was ours. Even if it was to work out perfectly (it wont) even our moments of glory will be tainted.

I am not against appointing him because of my own personal feelings on the matter, I am against it because of the majority of supporters opinions as they do matter because without the fans on his side he is doomed. I don't see why that is even being debated? It is just how it is.

This shout about living local needs to die

what does that have to do with anything?

aldo pigeon gooser lives local, interview him??
The weird thing is most managers end up living local once they've got the job. I've not seen many managers who fly in every day from another country.

Won UEFA Cup, Coppa Italia, Super Coppaitaliana and The Championship.

Defending Rafael Benitez is not a hill I’m willing to die on but…..he’s won 2 major trophies (top 5 league trophy or European title) and 2 minor trophies in the last 10 years. If he’d won much more he wouldn’t really be interested in the job. Think Carlo was the outlier here.

He’s also won more than most of the other sensible candidates (I.e. not the likes of Conte or Simeone). Galtier is probably the only candidate with more recent success.

Like I said Benitez is the wrong candidate. Nothing to do with ability or his character. It would just be a divisive decision due to his previous managerial positions. A decisive appointment is not needed.

That sounds like something from starbucks.
I heard a fella on the radio earlier. Think it may have been dean ashton, saying the only team he switched the tv off or over when on was Rafael at newcastle. He as an ex player doesnt think he has any pull for players anymore.
The chelsea side with the UEFA cup played itself. That might be a bit harsh but he inherited a champions league squad for 6 months.

…..think some managers are ‘safe’ and low risk, some are ‘progressive’ with higher risk. From a strategic perspective, having somebody progressive would be good to build us a team to be proud of but it looks like we’re going safe.

Same kind of who fan who creams themselves over their club being involved in the super league get excited and positive over Benitez appointment.

Probably that it means if he takes the job he's likely to have a good crack at it knowing it's likely as cushy and as ideal as its going to get.

Remember Mourinho lived out of a hotel when managing Utd and the likes of Lookman apparently stayed in a hotel when he moved here and never settled.

Doesn't count for much but it probably is more in your favour than say Nuno who's family are all in Portugal and he apparently has been homesick at times last season particularly with lockdown etc.

if it's winning football, noone will care.

I think the only thing is it means an easier interview and decision for him, not having to move a family...etc for us its proberbly just cheaper.

When Jose went to United he didnt move from London, seems that might not of helped
