It's not a dumb move for the club or Rafael - he is a good a manager - he can take the club forward. He is the best choice with what's currently out there.

He is not the best choice because the fans will not take to him making him fight an uphill battle in a pretty tough job at the best of times.

Why do people like you keep regurgitating this stuff? It is irrelevant. If the fans are not on side he would be doomed.

Why is this so hard to grasp, it's a cold hard truth. pretending that the issue is not there does not eradicate it. Lets have a dose of realism here.

Its absolutely clear what he means, he is talking utter nonsense!

It will NOT work out well for everyone. Some of us need a massive dose of reality here.

It's not a case of "not liking" something, in some instances it is sheer hatred. At this point certain people will chip in with their usual "oh well that's not right, we shouldn't be so small time, or do whats right for the club not fans" this is all pie in the sky drivel! Not because it is not true, in some instances it absolutely is true, but that does not mean you just ignore it and pretend it is not there. Rightly or wrongly the resentment is there and that is all that matters, nothing else, not his CV, not the fact that some fans are not as angry as others, none of it, his appointment would cause actual literal chaos.

Why are some people not seeing this? It is just how it is. To appoint him would be bordering on utter negligence.

A few egotistical supporters think because they are OK with it then everything will be OK because everybody is as fair minded and reasonable as them is crazy thinking.

Life aint straight, things that involve emotion certainly are not. Worst part of all this, I don't even hate him not really, I hate him in a pantomime way like I do with most rival players etc, I hold no ill will to the bloke and actually commend the fact that he would have the balls to even walk into such a cauldron of hate. But I am also an absolute realist and I genuinely do not understand the people who do not see what the situation is here and how that it will not work.
I think he will do a great job

I said one objective reason. Taking a job in China as a 'top' football manager is objectively waving the white flag on your ambitions, instead pursuing money. It is, at best, the equivalent of taking a holiday. There's plenty of evidence of this, such as Oscar going to Shanghai in his prime for no reason other than money. Benitez will make excuses for this, but ultimately if you're a genuine top club manager you don't do it, and objectively you can't really excuse that decision.

Your other reasons are subjective opinion and/or guesswork- style of play, current ability, whose choice it is etc. There's loads of those for every candidate.
You don’t half overvalue your own opinion. You can’t say somethings objective just because it’s what you think, and call anything you don’t agree with subjective. Going to China isn’t any more of an objective reason than any of the others, I thought you just meant objectively as in ‘if you ignore the Liverpool connection’ rather than ‘if we make this word mean what I would like it to mean’.

I think this too. He actually has a number of big wins he can make at the 1st press conference. Any sort of dig at them and their heads will fall off and quite quickly he will be a hero here. Can you imagine if he said something about them not having many ST holders in the city and Everton having loads more or something like that. The fan backlash is actually a lot easier to turn around than people might think.

He is not a stupid man. He would not do that. He would end up burning both bridges.

The Chelsea Fans booed him all season, when he was in charge of them, did it bother him no. He just went to win the Europa League with them that season.

It's objective in terms of judging him as a top level club manager. You objectively put money over ambition if you go to manage in China, as in you can't subjectively argue the other way rationally.

"Style of play", "is he still good enough" is subjective. I can argue subjectively either way for those points, whereas you can't subjectively argue going to China is driven by ambition.

So it's not about my 'own opinion'.

Said the same for a long time now myself.

Recently read he took the job as a last resort so his coaching staff could have a job.

I mean, seems disingenuous reasoning to me given he left Newcastle of his own accord but who am I to question...

I also don't think anybody outside of a few brainwashed Kopites/geordies really thinks Benitez is a top manager or ever really wash a top manager. He fluked a CL because they won a penalty kick competition following a far superior team having a mad 30 minutes. He won a couple of leagues in Spain when Barca hadn't become the force they were and Madrid had a dip. Probably his best achievement was running United close for the league, and the team he had built.

For me he was always a good at times very good manager but never more than that. However, the pool of managers we are picking from is not great currently. There's an argument to be made he is the best of the bunch that have been listed, and that he may be the lowest risk option (which will be appeal to our board).

what is so hard to grasp is your certainty that Benitez will never be accepted. On what basis do you so confidently assert this?

So you’re saying there’s still a chance?

Great we'll end up being at the mercy of Mendes all because the fanbase cany get over a small club jibe from 15 years ago lol

Wish we had Abramovich as owner/chairman bloke doesn't give a toss what the fans/media think and does what he thinks best for the club.

I just can't get excited by this fella looked burnt out at Wolves and has never won a trophy.
