My read of this is the agendas of the owner and fans arent in alignment.

What i believe is the owner wants a safe pair of hands for the next 2 to 3 years, he will be working on stadium finance and a large part of reassuring investors and financial institutions of staying in the PL with a safe pair of hands and walk into that stadium with guaranteed PL football. From that point of view this appointment is going to be underwhelming given what is available. Rafael offers all of that and is a company man - there is a lot to like about him from the owners point of view.

Then we have the fans, who would abhor Rafael, want short term success and on the field progression, preferably in an exotic creative way making super duper signings.

The two twains wont meet, in fact even a compromise may be undermining to both over goals.

Th verdict we are in for a very divisive and messy time as a club, baton down the hatches Blues.
Exactly this. We are going to end up with Eddie Howe or Duncan Ferguson now all because some fans won’t have a manager that was at Liverpool years and years ago. We also have the same fans saying stuff like “what’s he won recently?” Even tho Caro hadn’t won anything himself in 5 years yet fans we’re over the moon with him.

You are joking. When you consider what we have been through and all things considered. Our fans have to be amongst the most patient in the world.

I don't advoate the club giving a running commentary on everything they're doing, but I do think they're being a bit daft not putting a statement out at this stage. The speculation has been wild and they've allowed a narrative to be spun that they're effectively incompetent and arguing amongst themselves. Mud sticks, and no matter how this has really been handled behind the scenes there's likely to be a lingering feeling that they've made a mess of the search and rumours that all is not well. They could have headed this off with a bit of proactive engagement.
Agree the club seem think silence and sticking their head in the sand is a strategy. You need to be proactive and communicate with fans otherwise the void is filled with brief and counter brief.

If its true that the reason we pulled out of the Benitez deal was because of the fan backlash then the idiots who run us are even more amateur then I thought. How could those morons not see that coming? Ffs, Benitez coming here was always going to be divisive at best and if they weren't prepared for the inevitable pushback that was always on the cards then they shouldn't of even entered into discussions with him at all. The longer this fiasco goes on, the more painfully obvious it becomes that the people running our club don't have the slightest clue what they're doing. I guess it's a good thing that we won't have a manager that the majority of our fans hate but its staggering that they even opened discussions with him to begin with if they weren't 100% committed to the idea of bringing him in.

Yes I think so. I thought Spurs were ahead of us in the ludicrous stakes, but we will match them this week.

I accept Ancelotti caught them by surprise, but the little we have seen in the past three weeks just reveals a complete lack of awareness and preparation.

It seems Nuno was initially approached as a safe but uninspiring pair of hands, whom they went cold on and wanted somebody with a better CV.

I can understand that perfectly well, but they can't claim the reaction to a proposed Benitez appointment is a surprise to them.

They seem to be at a complete loss as to the sort of manager they can appoint with any degree of conviction and assuredness.

Accordingly, the sort of names linked and the person who will eventually be appointed will probably make most people wish we had went for Nuno in the first place.

He’s making a coherent and reasoned statement, burn the witch!!!!!

54 days until the season starts

We need a manager, a new playing style and about 5 players

No rush lads
Makes no odds at this point really. While the euros are on, most players are away, transfer will be slow and isn't much to do. Rather get the right man in 2 weeks time, than the wrong one now.

Last man standing Bri ?
I think the logic is that he gets closer to it every day there is no news. The clock starts ticking in earnest now and they'll feel that pressure. They can give it to Duncan for a year and say'll they'll keep under review. It would just be an admission that they couldn't get anyone decent.

I don't disagree with your general point, but I think the issue with that is that the fans feelings towards Benitez mean that he can't really be considered a safe pair of hands for 2-3 years. The pressure he'd be under from the outset would be huge, and a home record anything like the one we had last year just wouldn't be tolerated, the ground would be absolutely toxic and Moshiri would end up doing what he always does, panicking and sacking him. Whether it should be the case or not is kind of irrelevant really, the board can't just ignore the feelings of the fans if they're looking for stability because that would bring anything but.

Never said he did.

It is just madness to me that some blues are talking themselves into this appointment instead of fighting with every fibre of their being against it.

Crap fans the lot of them. NEA
Club owner gives a toss about what the fan base thinks shocker!
