And I mean this nicely but there is a bit of a pecking order which is there, but it's not so wide that it's inconceivable that there may be an overlap of targets. I mean you could probably say that Palace and now Spurs are both probably tailing the same mini league of the PL now. It's a bit of an odd situation.
Yes, accepted. You would not normally expect Palace to be fishing in the same pool, certainly not historically. In recent times we have been a bit closer, also have no debt, plans to increase capacity, significant investment in the academy, huge catchment area.

Top 5 for today, its taken quite a negative turn in here.....

1) Not Benitez
2) Not Nuno
3) Not Howe
4) Not Ferguson
5) Not Martinez

Still there remain possibilities with Galtier, Potter, Conte and Favre.....

Still can't see why some are having a nervous breakdown over him...

From just glancing at his record, admittedly without intricate knowledge of all clubs/leagues - he looks meh.

He defo is a good manager, he's often left clubs in much healthier places than where he found them but yeah I know what you mean.

I think people are getting insecure that maybe we didn't approach them, which I can understand tbf, we've never really thought outside the box a little bit with our post-Moyes managers, it's all been quite straight down the line.
  • Martinez was considered to be a good young manager who did his best with Wigan and did well to win the FA Cup despite going down
  • Koeman got Southampton to 7th or there abouts
  • Allardyce keeps teams up (vommits)
  • Silva was the next hot young thing who got a dead and burried Hull to a chance of safety on the last day and had Watford up there before Everton turned his head
  • Ancelotti is one of the most successful managers in the game and was available at the right time
Literally every single one of them had at least 2 seasons experience in the PL.

That's why I was opposed to Nuno, he seems a decent manager, but can't help but feel we'd just be repeating the cycle. Granted going outside the box for the sake of it defo could go wrong, but it's not exactly been great going with the predictable appointments.

I didn't directly answer because others have already pointed it out after.

I see.

One of those answers;

"Nice and Monchengladbach, from mid table or relegation-battling to the champions league, playing attractive attacking football. Left them in much stronger positions than they started with."

I've just checked and Favre took over at Nice from Claude Puel (remember him at Southampton and Leicester... *shudders*). Puel had a win rate of 40% at Nice. Favre, 42%.

It's not massive is it? Hardly a revolution.

[Edit] Just checked. Puel finished 4th with them. The following season, Favre took them to 3rd. He then left with them in 8th. Patrick Vieira then come in and finished 7th and 6th.

Yes fair point, but Ancelotti is a lot more likeable than Benitez. Ancelotti is quite charming, but as with most charming people it is rarely met with any sincerity. Benitez just comes across as quite spiteful and uncharismatic by comparison.
Has Benitez ever walked away from a job or has always been asked to leave?

To some degree, I kind of think you would expect Palace too, but what's interesting for Palace is you haven't as yet really kicked on. You've been in the league it must be 7 or 8 years and you've not really consolidated yourselves upwards, which is probably more unusual than anything. But Palace will probably be viewed as an "established" PL team now and when you take the blinkers off, I'm not sure Everton or Spurs can really make much more of a claim than that currently. So objectively I can completely see why Palace would look at a manager who was interviewing at Everton or even Spurs and think they have a USP that gives them a chance. I mean for Favre the offer Palace give him will be different to the offer Spurs/Everton can give and you kind of hope that connects.

I can't really make sense of why it's taking so long for all 3 clubs. I mean our board is pretty inept so I do get that but the others less so. I suppose Spurs are in a tough spot as they are clearly going to have to sell their star player who has kept them afloat and not have much to reinvest. For Palace the "De Boer" experience must linger large, where you tried to make the change a bit too soon and it went really wrong. Whether Palace want to twist with a Potter type appointment, and the degree they want to twist must be difficult question.
