I genuinely find that baffling. The supporters of big clubs do not do that.
They tend to have squads full of quality players who can perform to a top 6 standard no matter who is in charge.

We have a terrible, fragile squad who could be in real trouble if we carry on in this spiral of appointing and sacking managers.

So for the team's sake, I'm not going to be booing a new manager before they've even managed a game.

Anyway. I'm going to bed now as I feel like I'm in danger of being some sort of Rafael apologist when that's really not the case.

FWIW, my choices above Benitez would be Galtier, Potter, Nuno or Favre.
But whoever gets it, I'll be going the game and supporting the team.

And I personally don't think Rafael is the busted flush many seem to think he is. But I definitely think we'll never get to find out, because if he gets the job, it's going to go horribly wrong for all concerned. And I think that's avoidable but inevitable.

Speak for yourself. He was crap at Newcastle, spent loads on crap players and played horrible boring football (aside from when they were in the championship and had double the budget of most clubs) and since then has been dossing in China for the last couple years.
Why do I care that he won stuff over a decade ago?

Roberto Di Matteo won a champions league once - should we hire him? We hired Martinez because he won an FA cup - that went well! Hodgson got Fulham to a Europa league semi or final I don’t remember it was ages ago and who cares but it was impressive - shall we hire him? Steve Bruce just out performed Benitez who some are so sure is a great manager - bet we could prize him away from Newcastle?

I have yet to see anyone who is pro Benitez make a good argument why he would be the man for our club right now. Ignore that he’s RS fine, why is he good for us right now? When has he built a crap mid table team up to challenging for top 4? When has he taken a crap mid table team to win anything? All I see on his CV is managing galacticos at Madrid, the most expensive team in the premier league at Chelsea and being carried by a few world class players at Liverpool (take Gerrard alone out of Istanbul and they leave well beaten).

So who is this great manager we supposedly can do no better than?
I didn’t say he is good for us right now. I said we are a shambles and have limited options. The options we do have we seem to mess up. I also dont think I said Rafael was good, I said he has won something and seems like the best option we are left with while we watch the summer fade away with no manager and no new signings for the positions we need. We are between a rock and a hard place.

Can you enlighten me with regard to who we should be getting in?

What are you protesting against? The standard of quality of the possible manager? Or what he said about Everton? Or both?
I honestly couldn't care less about what he said about Everton, nor who he managed. I think Klopp is a bell but if he wanted to hop across Stanley Park I'd have him in a heartbeat.

My issue is that we are always behind the times. We are never forward thinking, we are always regressive. We are a laughing stock. We are about to appoint a manager who has done nothing of note for years and whose style is drifting out of the game. I am sick of watching Everton play awful football. Our football has been mostly awful since about 1990 (with the odd exception). I want to see us approach games with swagger and act like we belong at the top table. I want rival fans to look at us with envy for the way we play and the way we are run.

Benitez was on to something with our mentality with what he said (though it was ridiculously disrespectful of a rival manager to say so) - and he is not the one to change it. How often are Everton on TV and we put in a cringworthily bad performance of anti-football where we play long or can't pass the ball five yards? How often to we just camp men behind the ball? This absolutely needs to change. This is why we continue to be a laughing stock. I think you would be hard pushed to find a side in world football as historically successful as we are who are thought of so lowly and the butt of so many jokes.

Benitez is anti football and anti what we should be looking at. He's had his day and his day was a long time ago. Some might say the same of us and if we appoint him we are effectively agreeing.

Then maybe, JUST MAYBE, appointing a manager who more than half the fanbase despises probably isn't the best course of action?
