If the godfather has spoken we must obey.

"Alisher Usmanov has reportedly given the go-ahead for Everton to appoint Rafael Benitez as their new manager."

If I'm honest I've been surprised at how unpopular an option NES is with most Evertonians. Not my preferred choice but I thought he did a good solid job at Wolves and would be a sensible pick. Perhaps if we'd all been more enthusiastic at the start the club wouldn't have been tempted to look at Benitez.

Yeah I like Nuno and didn't mind him being the manager, now after all this Benitez crap over the last couple of weeks I'd be over the moon to see Nuno take over

Just so people are aware this is from ‘football insider’ - not the Echo

Far from my preffered choice but he becomes a lot more popular when the alternative is Benitez

Finding a manager to unite the fanbase.... and appointing one that the vast majority are fervently opposed too are two very different things. Most of the choices are admittedly underwhelming but I think the likes of Nuno would at lease be given a chance. Silva and Martinez weren't hugely popular at the start but it took more than two bad games to turn the crowd against them. Benitez will get no goodwill and no patience... which I think are valuable commodities in the modern game.

I do think a lot of the angst towards Benitez is social media based though - I think after 12 months of being locked out of the ground 90% of the fans will just be happy to be back in GP.

I think the 10% will be looking to give a good boo but I think the majority will just get on with it tbh.

I agree he'll have less rope than other managers would.

What I would say is that Nuno was given a club in Wolves who was built for him/Mendes and spent £300 million to finish 7th twice which could be his glass ceiling - could he come to Everton and do any better?

Whereas maybe Usmanov/Moshiri think if Benitez is given £300 million to spend over 3-5 years his glass ceiling his higher?

I trust Usmanov with this whatever he goes with.

Why would our training ground sponsor have any say in who our next manager is?

I’ve always thought that managers have a sell by date, Wenger, SAF, Mourinho and although I was happy with his appointment I suspect CA has gone the same way the FSW also falls into this group. Only SAF recognised this and left on his terms, that’s why I’m nailing my colours to Potter, risky I know, but I feel we need someone with new and innovative ideas. But having said all that I was in favour of Silva.
I think Potter COULD do well here but oof, that first year would be rough. We have like...I don't know, 2 players that could play the way he would want. And I would say Pickford is kind of one of them.
