If we choose somebody other than Benitez then the red-loving the media will have that narrative for the next seasons for whenever we lose.

A bit like that bitterness from us replacing Allardyce with Silva.

Just so people are aware this is from ‘football insider’ - not the Echo
Proves how utterly useless and irrelevant the echo is. Regurgitating an article from a bloke who lives in his mum’s basement n works for kfc.
How is that rag still relevant?

He is not just the training ground sponsor, his company has naming rights on the stadium.

He is calling the shots in the back ground, another way to beat FFP (so he does not need to own us, but can put money in another way). He mate Moshiri owns us in the eyes of the world (but he calls the shots).

It was a rhetorical question...

If he is calling the shots in the background then he needs to call them louder and better.

Benitez must the most arrogant and greedy tosser there could possibly be to even think about taking over at Everton. He can't be blind to the fans attitude towards him - he's hated by most Everton fans. Even the feelings of the RS fans are that he is going to ruin his standing with them. So he must just think "f*** 'em, they're only fans and they don't matter."
Is he doing it to prove himself professionally? Well, I don't think so. He went to China - was that to prove himself? Obviously not.
So there's only one possible motivation that he has and it's money, pure greed.
Moshiri, Usmanov or whoever is making the decision - you're about to stand in the biggest , most rancid pile of s***e imaginable and you'll never get rid of the smell it will leave.
So, just for clarity....... You're against the idea?

I agree that they both bring turgid football.
NES is dour as well but he is still a far more palatable candidate than the fat kopite.

i can see the argument. On the flip side Benitez knows what a trophy looks like. It’s a tough one.

No, Benitez is being brought in to guarantee mid table finishes for the next 3 years until we move into the stadium. He will not be given £300m to spend.

Perhaps but then Benitez falls out with owners over not having money to spend.

I think they'll be money to spend just not the kind that would get you a Conte so they think Benitez would be more likely to compete for Europe/trophies than the likes of Nuno and Favre and you can see why in regards to their respective CV's.

I don't think anyone outside of a select few would have made the fanbase happy and united coming on board Benitez or not.

Im happy to give whoever a chance as Ancelotti came here and was dog muck so im not judging until I've seen what the new bloke does in season 1.

I do think a lot of the angst towards Benitez is social media based though - I think after 12 months of being locked out of the ground 90% of the fans will just be happy to be back in GP.

I think the 10% will be looking to give a good boo but I think the majority will just get on with it tbh.

I agree he'll have less rope than other managers would.

What I would say is that Nuno was given a club in Wolves who was built for him/Mendes and spent £300 million to finish 7th twice which could be his glass ceiling - could he come to Everton and do any better?

Whereas maybe Usmanov/Moshiri think if Benitez is given £300 million to spend over 3-5 years his glass ceiling his higher?

I trust Usmanov with this whatever he goes with.

I'm not so sure on that mate. I think the Benitez hate cuts through different demographic. I think the anger towards Nuno was more on social media. I mean I'm using my dad and uncle as barometers, fairly typical "Everton Da's" but both are pretty angry towards Benitez but are ok with Nuno, on the basis of if you sack your manager you just go and get an up coming manager from the PL who doesn't want to play overly flambouyant football.

In terms of what they say, I'll be honest I don't think they look at it that deeply. They probably just felt he interviewed well and they liked the sound of what he can do. I'd like to think they would have factored in how he fits the current squad and previous manager pretty well, but I doubt it. He's a bigger name, probably showed them his medals and they were wowed.

In terms of how it goes, a lot will depend on the 1st press conference. He will get a small honeymoon period if he answers that well, but he has to start well. If we start badly, I sense there won't be much room for sympathy.

This will sound cruel but it's a bit of a win win for me. Either he's successful which will wind the Kopites up, or he's not and they have to see Benitez getting abused every week. Either Everton win, or I get to abuse Benitez. That's not a bad double up on a purely selfish level.

Covid isolation.

Any kind of isolation will do mate, as long as its miles away from Goodison.

I can't wait to hear Kenwright chat bubbles about this appointment "you know, I took Rafael the gaffer to the canteen and he leans in and whispers to me "Bill, this is the best canteen I've ever seen"

"I had a tear in my eye and I knew at that moment, he was the man for us"
