Perhaps but then Benitez falls out with owners over not having money to spend.

I think they'll be money to spend just not the kind that would get you a Conte so they think Benitez would be more likely to compete for Europe/trophies than the likes of Nuno and Favre and you can see why in regards to their respective CV's.

I don't think anyone outside of a select few would have made the fanbase happy and united coming on board Benitez or not.

Im happy to give whoever a chance as Ancelotti came here and was dog muck so im not judging until I've seen what the new bloke does in season 1.

Basically Benitez falls out with clubs who won't give him loads of money to spend that often the club can't support. Of all the numerous problems at Everton, that isn't actually the problem. He will not give a monkeys about the club, the academy, the unambitious culture at the club as long as he gets his signings. I can see why he and Usmanov/Moshiri are worryingly well aligned.

This would’ve been the case in years gone by, but Benitez isn’t interested in competing anymore at this stage of his career, this’ll be his last job before retirement and it’s a nice cushy number near his house with no pressure from the board to do anything. He certainly won’t be kicking up a fuss unless he’s underperforming so much that it looks like his job his under threat, in which case he’ll revert to type and blame everyone but himself again.

Yeah I agree there will be some money available. I doubt Benitez would take the job if there was zero money to spend after his falling out with Ashley over transfer funds.

But highly unlikely the new manager will be handed £200mill to spend this summer.

i can see the argument. On the flip side Benitez knows what a trophy looks like. It’s a tough one.

It's this for me. I can remember winning trophies, and I want a manager with a taste for it. We denied Benitez points and he got pissed off. I'd rather have a manager who lashes out after dropping points, than one who thinks everything is wonderful. If we appoint Potter over Benitez I despair.

Any kind of isolation will do mate, as long as its miles away from Goodison.

I can't wait to hear Kenwright chat bubbles about this appointment "you know, I took Rafael the gaffer to the canteen and he leans in and whispers to me "Bill, this is the best canteen I've ever seen"

"I had a tear in my eye and I knew at that moment, he was the man for us"
' I Saw the meals that were given to reporters on Transfer Deadline Day and thought that'll do for me ''

For me im more worried about Brands and the squad than I am Benitez potentially coming in.

We could appoint Guardiola and we wouldn't do much if Brands keeps giving him players like Iwobi & Gomes.

For me the pressure should be on Brands this summer whereas its been deflected to the manager situation.

Brands seems to have either mentally checked out or is being deliberately isolated.

Neither situation reflects well on him. He is just another expensive drain on resources now in the form of his own salary.

Likely now as well to be "working" with a manager who will pursue his own agenda and not give a bell about what he thinks.

He should be signing players as we speak and booting the likes of Delph, Benard and Gomes out the door - not waiting until the new manager comes in before deciding what he wants to do with the squad.

He's the DOF!
