That was With no money to be fair. The squad that got relegated that he inherited. Then in 3 years a promotion. And 2 mid table finishes, like you said. He was 3mil in credit on buying and selling Over the 3 season
Not allowed to mention net spend on here mate as apparently that is kopite behaviour

What will we all feel like if he wins the first ten games, we are rather fickle
Honestly, the main feeling I have now is apathy, not towards Benitez's appointment that makes me angry, but towards the club. It doesn't feel like my club anymore, it probably hasn't for years, tbh, but this has crystallised it for me. Since the start of the PL era the football has got a lot better but the concept of a "club" has slowly diminished. PL clubs are entertainment companies now and old farts like me, "legacy fans", are considered a hindrance or a nuisance or a drag on the business. If Everton win a load of games at the start of the season I'll be pleased but I won't feel the joy I did back in the 80s, likewise if we were relegated I'd be disappointed but I won't have that knot in my stomach and acid in my throat that I had at the Wimbledon great escape match.
As a club we have lost our soul, along with all of the big clubs, it's not unique to us, and as an entertainment company, frankly, we're not very entertaining. Dark times to be a "legacy fan".

I think we'd all agree our team needs significant improvement and the fans expect it from any new manager.

Even if you take the emotion and RS connection out of it, Benitez hasn't significantly improved a team since spending a fortune at the RS over 10 years ago.

As a fanbase, we're not the most patient at the best of times, but our patience will be wafer-thin with Benitez. He's going to be on a hiding to nothing unless he does something special very quickly. I can't see that happening, but I would love to be proved wrong.

Oh, and it's Benitez, not Rafael. I don't care that it's fewer letters to type. We're not kopites.

Forget the spray cans, bed sheets and abuse and lets just get behind our beloved Everton no matter who is in charge. Managers come and go but Everton will always be here. If it doesn't work he will be gone which we are well used to by now and if it does work well i for one will be absolutely delighted as all i care about is Everton and whatever it takes is fine by me.

LOL NO

love how everyone thinks we need to get a manager who is suddenly going to change us into free flowing football champions league contenders. koeman and Martinez appear to have gone onto better things, both of which were considered by some as not good enough for us. Throw Ancelloti in as well. Dont get me wrong I cant stand Rafael but whoever takes this job is going to have to withstand these unrealistic expectations. Rafael wont last because he will already be starting from a difficult position in that most of the crowd hate him.

I don't think Benitez would sign up without assurances of money to spend

I think he would. This is nothing more than a convenience to him. He only took the Newcastle job on because his daughter went to University there. He’s only taking the Everton job on because the club is located nearby to where he lives.

Bingo. Well done. Play into exactly what the board want.

Should we 'give him time mate' ??

'Support the club not the manager' too?

Can we not sign players either when he joins because of 'evaluating the squad' either?

Then when he is sacked are we going to have another 'transition season' ?

Are you not sick of this stuff. Meanwhile it will be 30 years without a cup before we know it.

Benitez is the only manager on that list who has inherited a side who were on the brink of CL last season. It's realistic to expect him to close that gap.
