What frustrates me a bit is the tone policing. Like you shouldn't go to the game if you're not happy with the appointment. On what basis?

I'm actually quite agnostic on it, I'm not as angry as most, but it's really not my place to start having a pop at people who are angry about it. I fully understand why. It is entirely Benitez's fault for that, and entirely at his doorstep to repair that damage. In some ways I hope for once in his life, he actually reaps what he sows a bit, and gets a flavour of what people actually think of him and his behaviour outside of the cosy little bubble he has.

Like if fans want to go and shout stick at Benitez, go for it. He could dish it out quickly enough so he cant complain when he gets a bit back. I wont be doing so, but good luck to those who feel they want to.

Agreed. And I think for all the twitter virtue signalling and the limited "give him a chance" pockets on here, it will be a different story at the ground. Allardyce is the evidence- we had "up the Bisto Blues" online but the crowd got at him from the off. It's not going to get any better with fervour, ale and cocaine thrown into the mix

Kopite behaviour

It's not though is it, it's pissed off young Evertonians who've had to put up with crap every year from this club, but are supposed to just except it because 'were better than that' or 'thats kopite behaviour' this is the straw that broke the camels back for many blues, don't get it twisted for what it is, this club has took the piss for years

And I'd rather we didn't encourage people to hurl abuse at Everton's new manager on day one. How that is in any way justified or appropriate I do not know.

I'm not encouraging people to hurl abuse though.

I'm saying if people want to give him stick, criticise him etc they are within their rights too.

If he apologises properly for what he has said, I might revise that a bit, but until then I can understand peoples frustration.

Benitez controls what happens really. If he properly apologises for his mistakes then it will go a long way IMO, and I hope he does that.

Its not though. Shall we list it?

Make your hatred case because of his past associations, but not on his record which stands up.
Not in the recent past it doesnt. As soon as any player and now manager goes to China it tells me all i need to know about them. He recent explanation of his past comment was an embarrassing lie. We are or were a club with class. This is just so wrong. There are hundreds of managers out there. I d take Potter any day over this has been.

Say Benitez does a good job here though?

Say we appoint Potter or Howe instead and we finish 16th?

Surely all that matters is results on the pitch?

I didnt want Benitez but ffs lets wait and see how we do the first few months before crying when the alternatives to Benitez aint any better.

Or dull, slow performances.

What I will say though, is that 1st press conference (if he has one) will be critical. If he chooses not to do the right thing and:
1) Put some distance between him and Liverpool
2) Properly apologise for the ridiculous comments he has made previously

Then he will have some chance to win sections around.

If he chooses not to do both of those things, hes an idiot and yes people will let them know how they feel about him, as he has done about how felt about their club.

Well said. I cant bloody protest about something my club has done to break that PEOPLES CLUB bond because its " kopite behaviour ". Tough. I ll just have to embarrass you all.

It is sad, but can you honestly say you're surprised.

That's not me by the way, but I do understand such thinking as hes a loathsome, uncharismatic and deceitful man who people just dont want near the club. It's up to him to try and change perceptions, but it would mean fundamentally altering who he is and become a decent person. I'm not sure he has it in him. I hope he does like.

I'm prepared to give him a chance, on certain conditions, but I want to see improvement on our points tally this season.
Become a decent person? He managed our rivals and called us small club after a game. He's not Jimmy Saville.
