If this was anyone but Benitez I'd agree but if we aren't challenging for Europe next season with roughly the same squad that Ancelotti had + whatever money the board are saying they will splash, it will be so toxic I can't see how he will be able to stay.

Whoever the manager is needs big money to spend this season otherwise we have no hope of europe realistically.

We are the slowest team in the league. I just dont trust Brands to spend the money wisely - had he done so the previous transfer windows we wouldn't be in this halfway house situation.

Benitez is just another utterly uninspiring, negative-football peddling placeholder manager who'll be gone in 12-18 months. That's the worst and most depressing thing about this. Far more so than his connection to the shabite. I actually think he seems like an alright bloke but his time is well in the past. Is this really the best we can do? :(

The lack of vision is enough to make you feel like giving up on this club.

The only thing annoying me more than this is Moshiri, Kenwright & Co completely ignoring fan reaction and pushing their authority onto the club.

Quiet media wise considering its meant to be today
What worries me even more than this appointment is that we are wasting valuable transfer window time to get some decent players into this squad.

Unless of course we really are skint and even if we had a manager would still not be able to get any players in without selling.

It won't be today imo
Yeah its very quiet in the media considering today was meant to be the day.

Club need to act swiftly now IMO, either to 1) address all the mess and say announcement will be made in due course or 2) just have the balls to announce him and get on with the job of improving the squad.

Dead simple.

Benitez dramatically throwing off a red tie, replacing it with a blue one, and being lifted to the heavens.

Do we know that we won't get good players in and if we don't won't that be more on Brands than anyone else.

If it is Benitez, I don't think he would join us without the promise of some funds to spend.

I look at Spurs where it is clear that manager after manager walked away because they would have limited access to transfer money.

Realistically we need three or four good signings to give us hope of having a good season.
