Reckon they’re working on a ‘message to the fans’ video for when it’s confirmed.
Something along the lines of an apology for his comments which upset some of our fans 15 years ago, distancing himself from them across the park and something about us being a big club in England and wanting to be successful and get us back up there. Might win a few more over if he did that.

If he throws in that Iwobi and Sigurdsson are frauds and their services won’t be required next season he’ll probably have everyone on board.

Apologies must be in bedsheet form only

I don’t get why people think we will bury the announcement during an England game. Why? Do you think Everton fans won’t notice?
Fans of other clubs won’t care either.

Will be this afternoon I reckon.
Yeah, i'm a bit perplexed by this idea that the club think they can make the announcement during the England game and we'll all just come back tomorrow speculating about who the new manager is because it's bypassed us completely. I'm not sure what good people think burying it would do either, the fume has already boiled over massively, any attempt to keep a lid on it went out of the window about a week ago.

The problem is most of our fans are crying out for a "young progressive" manager to play good attacking football.

Look at this squad mate - is it good enough to play that way? Can Keane and Mina play a high line?

Our midfield cant string two passes together unless its sideways and back.

Thats the problem - we need to build solid foundations and sort out this garbage recruitment policy we currently have before we can trust some 30 year Portuguese manager or Graham Potter to be able to come in and get this team playing super football.

Benitez in an ideal world will do what Moyes did until BMD is built - stabilise us, make us tough to beat like Ancelotti but HOPEFULLY we spend money correctly this time and bring in players with pace and energy who can actually be able to counter attack well enough rather than playing for set pieces like last season.

If we do the above we could still compete for Europe look at West Ham and Moyes last season.

Then after 2-3 years Benitez goes as the stadium is built and we have a squad that a progressive manager can takeover and sprinkle some fairydust over like Martinez's 1st season built off Moyes foundations with the stadium sorted and finances improved.

We should be ready to really challenge properly at the top by the time of the BMD move with year by year improvement. At that point do we let Benitez go in 2024 and get in a top manager, or give him a new deal to take the club into the new stadium?

The problem last season was people got too ahead of themselves by a good start to last season. It'll take time.

Benitez won't be here in 2-3 years. It is an awful appointment that will end in tears and see Everton slipping further away from competing for anything.

Well thats down to the fanbase as much the manager himself. If the fans just want the bloke to fail then you, I and everyone else on here suffers as a result of that.

I would much rather the fans support the side and make GP a fortress - if he does crap at least then he's booted and its clear the ownership got it wrong without the excuse of "the fans made the place toxic from day one".

As I said mate if it aint Benitez its still going to be someone cheap and dour we wont be bringing in some maverick or a Conte that everyone wants - Benitez failing mid season would be a disaster as I honestly wouldnt rule out Alladyce coming back in especially if we were bottom 3.

Also giving him any time, takes us further away from being able to play with a high line and progressive football as the players he bring in, will be even less suited to.it than the ones we have now. It's taking us backwards, not building foundations.

I have no idea why they want to appoint him, No idea why he wants to manage us, especially knowing the feeling amongst the fan base,
My own personal view is that it will fail and I believe there is only one way this will end, we'll be back to square one in the not too distant future. However when Koeman was appointed I was really happy and that ended in disaster. Every mangement appointment is a risk, especially for our club because of the clowns who are running it, but taking everything into consideration the silence from the club is the most shocking thing..

Forfeiting a large percentage of his salary and donating it to Everton in the community would be a good starting point to apologising to the fans, club and city.
