Torres obviously had more influence as a player, but you're comparing apples with oranges. He spunked an awful lot of money. Sure, some good players in there, but it was scattershot.

We literally didn't have the resources at the time.

Players bought by Benitez - a few successes, mainly for big money - and a lot of dross.

the players I listed formed an outstanding team. There is no doubt about that. And not for big money. He picked up Crouch and Bellamy Aurelio Arbeloa for buttons. And when he spent big he normally got hit right too.

you're right we signed much better players too than the ones I listed, but I was making the point we had money to spend, but even with Moyes (who was v good int the market) the team he built was nowhere near as good as the one built by Benitez.

The most unforgivable thing about this is the cowardly way its been leaked out. These clowns own the club! If they truly believe that this is the best decision to take the club forward then they should bloody well say so. Stand up and own it. I might not like it but I could at least respect them if they just went "this is how things are, deal with it". you're right we signed much better players too than the ones I listed, but I was making the point we had money to spend, but even with Moyes (who was v good int the market) the team he built was nowhere near as good as the one built by Benitez.

I mean of course it wasn’t, Moyes was operating on at most a net spend of about £6m a season??
