Brighton fan in peace.
I agree with the posters who say "Everton are too big for him" is just guesswork. Of course you're a much bigger club, I've no issue with calling my club small but there's no real logic to the 'too big' tag. It's possible he's capable of this step up just as it's possible he could fall out with the chairman. None of us know the likelihood of either so why place so much emphasis on just one risk? These glass ceilings holds English football back. It's why Allardyce, Warnock, Pardew, Bruce keep getting jobs and young coaches esp. black coaches don't get a look in. It's why Top 6 don't like recruiting Englishmen. Risk averse clubs going for what they know and what their rivals do.

It doesn't get much more intimidating than Rangers but Gerrard's done fantastic work. And it's his 1st job (I think). Rangers fans wax lyrical about how he's been a breath of fresh air with new ideas and approach. Yes, it's a 2-horse race but even taking that into account, he's worked wonders.

As others have said, the next boss will be supported by Ferguson who knows the culture of the club inside out and the idea that any player could bully a coaching staff with him at the top seems far-fetched. And Potter may look soft but so did Sir Bobby Robson. I'm not saying you should appoint someone who comes from a smaller club or that preferring someone with more experience at your level is lazy thinking. Just that I don't think the step up is any bigger risk than a dozen other reasons and it creates glass ceilings.

Saying all that, I've no idea if Potter would be the best candidate. I don't know enough about the other candidates, I've no interest in European football. A lifetime supporting a club in the lower leagues can do that. Just don't pick Benitez please. I'm happy with my club being called small because it is. It's disrespectful to chuck it at a founder member, longest time in top flight and all those trophies.

You’re far too rational for a Seaweed. Good post mate.

Did we ever really find out what happened with that cut on his eye? He made up some fairytale about falling into a fence on the beach didn't he as if that happened come on Potter lad we aren't think. I reckon he got it trying to touch some fellas johnson. They're all at it down there it's a weird place even the junkies bum each others heads in. No harm in that of-course, each to their own. He would be a terrible choice. Mind you he'd spend quite a bit of dough in the Lisbon.
Funnily enough I bumped into Moshiri yesterday and he was saying exactly the same thing.

I think Duncan may be part of the problem tbh - purely from a coaching point of view. I cannot imagine him preparing offensive drills on his lap top the night before training. Surely his input is of the motivational type (it isn’t working).

re Gerrard. No doubt he has done well because very few of that Rangers team could play in the PL - but he has also benefited greatly by Celtic’s implosion, self-destruction, end of an era - whatever you want to call it. He will probably see out another year at Ibrox and then replace Von Klampit. Slippy G managing Everton? Not going to happen.

You can keep repeating that word as much as you want, doesn't change the fact that your main point was supported by factually inaccurate information.

Is our squad the best around? Clearly not. But there were only 9 sides in the country better than us last year (in a year where we had one of if not the worst injury records in the PL), and we have a large number of players coming towards the end of their deals, so there is ample opportunity for reinvigorating the squad in the short to medium term.

We also have an owner who has shown a willingness to invest in the squad and in the manager.

So yeah, I think your main point is pretty bad, as well as the supporting info.

the fact you're not spitting feathers makes me think he's not that great. i remember we were sniffing around Nuno a couple of years ago, and we were deluged with shreiking wolves.

I'd rather Ferguson was kept around the first team, at least he gives a toss.

As for the second paragraph, anything to do with him coming here is a complete waste of breath. The echo are running it as a top Everton story right now the absolute rats. No shame it has to be the worst paper on the planet. They just make stuff up.
