New Everton Stadium

Surely that won't bring anywhere near the same levels of regeneration though?

Not to sure if that would work out.

Sorry I am assuming this is in relation to a Stonebridge cross site
If LCC want to host the commonwealth games, they won't be doing it at Everton's new stadium. So rather than looking for someone to take over some great hulk of a stadium, they should build a modest athletics stadium with the sole purpose of becoming the top athletics venue in the north, nay the whole country.

I don't believe for one second that an Everton stadium at SC would create any great level of regeneration, and neither would an athletics stadium, but it's the only way LCC should be looking for their 2026 ambitions.

Interesting to know why you think that mate?

Funny enough doing my dissertation on football stadia as a catalyst for regen'

Infrastructure or other deep lying issues with that site?

I can't imagine we would announce anything about a location until we have negotiated a deal for a site. If they announce now that we really want the dock site then the sellers would be in too good of a negotiating position. Surely we will state that all sites are being considered until such time as we have a deal?

Just seems like too big an ask. The area of the docks we are looking to secure isn't exactly Santa Monica, but the proximity to the city centre means a regeneration was always feasible and the proposed new stadium is just another piece of that.

But SC is miles out. It'd just be another Riverside Stadium, plonker out there surrounded by industrial units and sad housing near a motorway. Good luck regenerating that!

(No offense to anyone living there, like, but my nana lived out in Southdene which isn't far away and it was pyar grim)

I completely agree with this.

There's no reason why a proposed CG stadium couldn't have temporary larger stands whilst hosting the event in a similar way to stadium Australia for the 2000 Olympics.
That stadium had temporary upper tiers at each end giving a capacity of 112k +. After the event they were removed and the capacity dropped to 83k ish.

If LCC want the CG games then SC would be ideal. Going with your idea of a athletics stadium holding 25-30k (with temporary tiers for the CG giving 40k) UK/northwest athletics would have a decent future and (hopefully) with the possibility of hosting Diamond league would be great for the area and region as a whole.

Just like Bolton's stadium as well.

I find it fascinating that some people can't wait to rubbish any suggestion that the club is moving forward. Yet these same posters are usually the most vociferous and critical when match days don't turn out perfect.

Realistically we can't advance on the pitch, until we advance off it - I'd have thought those most desperate to see us winning every game and have a team full of world class players would be the keenest to see the off-field improvements.

Weird.

Freud would certainly find it interesting.

That's SIGMUND FREUD the neurologist

NOT 'FRAUD'. Some whom accuse Moshiri and your good self thereof

There will be no running track nor any compromise for a possible CG bid.

I cant see it either.

Since the majority shareholder wants it - the EFC stadium - as an asset for the club. Not a liability.

If Moshiri want's a running track stadium. He'll build one in another stadium elsewhere in the city.

I think a arena at the docks for the commonwealth games, is a none starter, no way are Peel going to hold that land back for someting that might or might not happen in 10 years time.
