New Everton Stadium

Of course there is sentimentality, but how else can one get rid of the restricted views that GP has, I live in Burnley now and even Turf Moor has better views than GP.

It is the neglect of the stadium that tends to drive the sentimentality. Goodison is a football ground, not a stadium, or concourse or house, purely a football ground. Not many of them exist anymore. It is what makes the place special. It is that which should be the driver. There have been greater suggestions as to how to renovate and upgrade than I could muster, but it has been shown to be both possible and feasible.

I reckon it is a part of our team we could ill do without, no opposition can counter the atmosphere or legislate for it when the supporters are up for it.

We shouldn't have let it get to this, but we have, and the driver to move is less to do with football than people acknowledge.

Just out of curiosity, is it Monaco who have a underground car park for football ? Downside being that the pitch is a bit of a mess ?

If i had to pick any design to be used for a new ground then signal iduna (dortmund) is my favourite, also been the San Siro for a game and it was amazing, also done the tour which was a money maker within itself. However i would hate going to watch Everton in one of those massive bowl grounds, juve tried it and have just moved to a smaller ground to bring some tradition and atmosphere back.

Do you honestly think it is Goodison that provides the atmosphere? Or the people who sit in it? It can provide a nostalgic atmosphere, but it doesn’t increase crowd decibels. We’ve all been to Goodison when the atmosphere has been diabolical.

We've all been to Goodison when the crowd has responded to diabolical displays too.

There are plenty of non Evertonians who consider it a special place, and a special atmosphere, they don't go away saying those Evertonians are lovely looking people. It needs, and has needed, looking after.

this isn't just sentimentality, it is reasoned

There is a very strong argument that it is Goodison that has driven us on, no matter what you do with a new stadium you cannot guarantee an atmosphere, the Old girl has that, noted by many players and managers of opposition.

I would argue that the case for a new stadium isn't to please existing supporters but to attract daytrippers the way 'big' clubs do, as they spend in the shops more.

You want a football experience or you want an arcade with a pitch, with Everton it is so dependant upon outside forces with a ground move, and their input will be higher on the list of priorities than those of existing supporters, DK was testament to that.

Firstly the ground doesn't create the atmosphere, it might enhance it due to the accoustics, but that's also a matter of conjecture.

What Goodison has that makes it intimidating is the stands very close to the pitch, and there's no reason why that couldn't be replicated in a new build.

The rest of what your saying there, smacks of "keep it as it is, as that's how I like it" and is sneering at 'new age' fans, which is hardly progressive thinking.

I understand that but now it is holding the club back.

Based on the last attempt on moving, and the designs it promoted, these 'new age fans' are hardly likely to return. Even batlights couldn't drum up what was needed.

There has to be something unique about where we play, otherwise we lose that element I was talking about. Replicating the Ricoh isn't it.

I am not wholly against moving, would have loved the Kings dock, but I have little faith in the ambitions, reasons and abilities we are looking to muster for such a big change.

BTW, sneering is far away from what I am doing

All this rubbish about GP, the existing footprint, it can't be redeveloped etc.....

It can be done and has been proven on a previous feasibility study.
It just takes the will and the obvious funding(which our current board have neither)

With respect, I have to disagree, I don't think it has been sufficiently proven to warrant taking it forward in the search of the investment capital that would be required. And if it meant closing one section of the ground for possibly a season while it was demolished and rebuilt, the club would lose revenue on the affected attendance numbers.

GP is and always be the home we think of fondly and with marvellous memories, but modern times need modern thinking and that I would respectfully suggest means a new stadium elsewhere. Kings Dock would have been the ultimate to my mind.

They want a "Effectively free" stadium, which in turn, will make a massive profit on their shares when they sell them.

They would probably still make a big profit if GP was upgraded, but is it truly feasible. Just think never mind being a football fan but if you owned a house in Gwladys Street and the club or council said here is 50K buggar off and find some where else to live because we need this space. Take that all round the other side of GP and you think it can be remodelled without disturbance to residents? In looking at that think what the RS have done to houses near them.

Robert Earl has got this Stadium designed, so he and his spiv mates can ski down the roof of the stands while watching the game.
