New Everton Stadium

Looking at West Ham's stadium on tv, please please please nothing like that. The distance between fans and pitch is horrendous!!

Even if your new stadium is part of the city's 2026 Commonwealth Games bid (which the Mayor is still pushing for) it'll surely be a football stadium temporarily retrofitted for athletics, not an athletics stadium retrofitted for football as is the case at the OS. I can't conceive of a situation where you'd ever end up with anything like the OS.

The OS is a great athletics stadium though. Was there in 2012 and will be back this Summer for the World Championships to see Sir Mo Farah's last ever 10k.

Oh my. Say that about foreign workers and you'd be strung up. But apparently it's perfectly fine to say that about British workers.

Quite perverse how Remain voters perceive British workers as inferior, despite themselves actually being British workers.

It was clearly a joke. Keep your Union Jack knickers out of a twist and your Brexit balderdash elsewhere please.

-Serious hat on-

Not sure if it's the same in the U.K., but in Ireland we pretty much lost our vocational education and apprenticeship setups in favour of everyone going to college/uni and doing some sort of generic business or arts course.

A lot of the guys coming in from Poland/Czech etc came through that sort of system, and you can see the difference....

-serious hat off again-

Indeed. The drive to push everyone towards uni has been catastrophic. There is nothing wrong with being vocationally orientated, yet there's a stigma that suggests you're a dimwit if you don't go to uni.

The very thought of having to make any design compromises to accommodate a one off 2 week 2nd rate athletics event makes my blood boil. I want know involvement with the games bid

Hypothetically LCC could make it a condition for planning application approval so might not have a choice.

Not saying that's what's happening but its certainly feasible

Well if they did, and I very much doubt they would/could, they would have to pay for it. Unless they are part financing it, which I very much doubt.

Be like getting planning permission for a new house and the council saying how you decorate the place.

They couldn't make it a condition. Planners can't force a private company to accept an athletics event. However that is not to say that there would not be a lot of other negotiating points with the council where it may end up being advantageous to accept the event.
For example, the council may be able to get some external funding for the stadium, or for improvements to transport and infrastructure links if it is part of the commonwealth games.
