New Everton Stadium

If that Reuters article is correct, then we are effectively looking at spending 150 million pound just to increase our capacity by 5000.
I believe Liverpool are spending £150,000,000 on extending the Anfield capacity an extra 13,000...and our whole new stadium will cost that??
Quality...

From reading the statement it sounds like we are a long long long way off anything concrete happening. It's basically just a small extension of the statement from a few months ago saying another statement will be happening close to the start of the season. Oh well, just have to wait and see what happens this time though I have little faith I the board being able to deliver a stadium and project worthy of our good name. That once in a lifetime opportunity went sailing down the Mersey when Kings Dock went tits up.

Timing was determined by LCC. Reckon the club's contribution went along the lines of..

LCC "We need to determine our 10 year planning strategy, if we say you'll think about moving to WHP as part of a regeneration plan, you okay with that?"

Bill, Bob et al.."erm, yeah, sure....we will stop buying lawnmowers for a bit.."

Anyone had a look for stadium designs yet? Found this on Twitter, it was for a stadium in Brazil, but I think it would look good in the middle of Walton Hall Park

Wasted space in the corners. Looks nice but is a poor design for any stadium.

Can't help but think similar, cuts and the like which are and have been that this is just a way for Joe and Co to be like, look at this huge project we have planned.

Unfortunately I can't see us getting anywhere without big 3rd party backing and I can't see this lot gaining that support. Surprisingly a £5m Chang sponsorship and ongoing KitBag nonsense are not exactly up to the job Mr. Elstone.

My own opinion, giving some credit for foresight which isn't deserved based on past efforts, is a hope that tagging along on this keeps relationships sweet between the club and LCC. It may help in a sale of the club, but that wouldn't fit in with Bill's M.O. so far, he would want to get some limelight on a delivery....

Not that optimistic on the club's contribution going forward

In fairness the economic landscape at the club has changed since the last debacle and with the £30m p.a. TV revenue increase - with another increase following on in a couple of years. There's now a decent possibility of leveraging some long term borrowings to fund it. The challenge will be trying to get it as close to cost neutral as possible in the short term at least.

I'd agree that Bill could well see this as his 'legacy' opportunity given his age now, but equally once at the approved planning stage it could be the catalyst for a sale

The "We Buy Any Car Park"

It's great that things seem to be coming together in terms of finding a preferred site, having the council behind us and a very basic idea of funding and what the site will entail.

Obviously this is just a basic statement of intent and what the preferred site will be. Once the more detailed plans start coming out we'll be able to form a proper opinion on if this is the stadium we need.

I can understand the local residents worrying, but they should wait to see the full plans before deciding that they need to protest.

I'd prefer a more city centre location, but as that doesn't seem viable, WHP being a mile or so from Goodison is as good as possible.

Serious note, i think we should honestly call it "Walton Hall Park" as an unofficial name, with branding rights for the "official" name.

I know that won't go down well, but i like the tradition of naming it after where it is, and i also like the thought of us getting a big big bag of money just to name it something else.

Either that or the Tony Hibbert Arena. I don't care which

Agreed, I mean lets be honest, there is no point calling it "Goodison Park" or "The New Goodison Park", so I would actually be quite happy for it to be called "Walton Hall Park", I could live with that.

Unfortunatly, there is no chance that they won't take up the opportunity of naming rights, so it would be up to the fans to vehemently keep referring to it as "Walton Hall Park".

I think alot of it depends on the brand, The Emirates sounds nice, The Sports Direct Arena sounded awful.
