New Everton Stadium

I've got no doubt we'll end up with the type of stadium we want, going to be interesting how it all pans out though because you would imagine a state of the art stadium is going to cost way more than £300m, cough, cough splutter.....Usmanov, cough.
Oh there's no doubt it's going to cost more than £300 million. No project has ever stuck to budget so I expect it to be £350 - £400 million.

Was a good read that. Interesting point was this " £300m does not buy you an “iconic state of the art venue” as claimed in the announcements."

I am inclined to agree with that too. In no way pouring cold water on what is overall a great thing for us, and certainly no expert, but it does seem on the more modest scale of outlay if that's the total, even excluding comparisons with London. The financing model suggests to me that we would have room for a bit more oomph and ambition.

He also made a good point about Moshiri putting in 50m or so, if that was the difference between 50k and 60k total capacity it would mean a lot.

The devil is in the detail. I would expect total construction cost to rise over the duration of the build anyway, but its important that what gets built stands the test of time and doesn't just blend into something average, bland, uninspiring.

To me we need 60k + best in class build and design. If the budget is 300m then we will have to compromise on one or both of those aims.

Agree we need 60k, think we'll end up with the stadium we want though, have a feeling there will be a lot more to this build (investor wise) than we think.

So "Im not bothered"from Mossley hill manages to get a train to the pit?
Maybe we should phone Roger and ask why a station has been built for him to attend games

Think that's a bit simplistic though. Bear in mind that the figure doesn't (appear) to include land costs, there are no existing businesses to compensate/move or residents to buy out, there is seemingly little ancillary infrastructure to build (as Peel and LCC are constructing roads etc for Liverpool Waters generally), so compared to say Arsenal or Spurs its the equivalent of being 10s of millions ahead already. Also I suspect that the 300-350m figure is for a 50k seater stadium, think the final result will be bigger.

Of course against that, filling in the dock is likely to be more expensive then standard foundation works, but reckon its still quite a bit ahead.
