It's a great athletics stadium though.
Oh Christ, yeah. Astonishingly good.

We are surely going to see some concept designs / CGIs soon. Birmingham publishing theirs a week ago.
The CWG bid deadline is September, is it?
Stupid as it may sound, I'm half watching this but it didn't register with me that this is West Ham's ground until my lad commented. It's a great athletics stadium though.

Any wonder their pitch looks like an oasis in the desert. I can't visualise how you would make that into an atmospheric football stadium.
West Ham has very visibled gambled with their entire future. It is not fit for purpose yet they have hung their hat on it.I doubt it can be made any better unless they pull it down and start again.
But it's nice to see how it should be though, it's like a down trodden frumpy wife that has got a new frock, had her hair done and gone to a party and she shines. Mind you fifty odd thousand hammers fans is enough to upset anyone...
It's got to really bug West Ham fans. It's clear that what it's designed for is fantastic at creating an atmosphere yet you could hear a mouse fart when they play at home. It's a great athletics stadium though.
Every time I see that London Stadium it lowers my expectations. I just don't see how you can ever make a Football stadium from one with a running track.
If I was designing a stadium, the 2 things I'd want to know :
- Minimum allowed distance from pitch.
- Steepest allowed angle of terrace.
Maybe the 4 sides could be built 20-40 metres behind their final position & moved into place when the commonwealth games finish.
...it is an athletics stadium that West Ham got on the cheap. Elstone has already said that the space between the pitch and first row at BM will be the minimum legal requirement.[/QUOTE)
Quite certain that Brum will get the nod due to there much safer bid. The decision makers will not want to run the risk of another football/athletics conversion project where initial costs spiral out of control.
Despite everything that has been said there is almost certainly 2 different designs. People who believe an athletics track can be accommodated in a completed stadium that maximises the regs on pitch proximity and steepness I believe are being a little naive. Happy to be proved wrong as if possible the infrastructure from the CWG could be a huge benefit but my current view is that I would rather we lose this bid
There's consultations planned to consult fans on designs and then there will be a period when they'll consult about the exact date that consultation process will get started. We are surely going to see some concept designs / CGIs soon. Birmingham publishing theirs a week ago.

If the stadium is built to accommodate the commonwealth games first, I just can't imagine how they'll do that?
Unless they build some/all the sides behind their final position & slide them forward. Didn't they do that across the park??
