New Everton Stadium

The bigger the capacity the more opportunity you have to do special pricing for kids, penshioners, whatever. It's good business. You can charge more for premium seats and less for non premium seats. It's good PR and it keeps the stadium full. Obviously there's a point of diminishing returns, but we are in direct competition with the RS for the hearts and minds of the next generations. If a kid or a parent with a kid, can take them to see us, and not pay an arm and leg, or never be able to go to Anfield, and pay a fortune if you do, the odds start to tip in our favor.

We're already basically even with them locally and we haven't won a damn thing in 22 years. Imagine when we start to have the same success on the pitch AND you can actually go to the match.

The city will definitely be all ours in 20 years.
Having the City blue isn't enough for a turnover when support outside the city is smaller compared to the RS.

The reason their turnover is about to be over £250 million more than ours is because they have a bigger world wide fan base which in turn sells more merchandise, and gets bigger commercial deals.

Do you want the club to be a local club like ala West Ham,Newcastle,Leeds or do you want the club to be aiming higher in the grand scheme of things in the day of modern age football where money rules.

They just played 2 games here in Hong Kong and sold so much merchandise, same all over for them they sell out everywhere here in Asia and Australia getting sellout crowds and lots of $$$ the process from promotors giving them $$$ to play there and selling merchandise.

I respect your views on broadening the local support in the City but the game especially the PL is international now on a massive scale and it's a reason why the big teams in the league go to the states and asia every summer. It's not to play in front of the adoring fans but to milk them and the game promotors for every penny they can get.

Stop pretending please.

We all know.

I'll take any one of our own local lads supporting Everton than 20,000 whoppers in jarg shirts, who ain't got a "jar of glue" about English football and who would doubtless show up for United/Chelsea/Arsenal friendlies for whenever they visit, wearing said teams tops as well.

I mean we're all so envious of that fanbase.... dead knowledgable de are, and part of "de red family". Supporters all over DE WERLD LAD

Wayne's on track :coffee:

"Mayor Joe Anderson explained: “The opportunity for Everton’s new home to play a key role in the Commonwealth Games is a very exciting one for our city and the Club, presenting the opportunity to showcase our sporting pedigree, our waterfront and all our city has to offer to audiences across the world.

“I know that everyone at the Club – not least the Chairman and Mr Moshiri, who I am in regular contact with – is absolutely committed to replicating the intimacy, fan proximity and atmosphere of Goodison Park at our new home. I share that commitment and we won’t make the mistakes others have made. Our plan is to install a temporary track.

“Just like it would be if the Club was hosting a concert or another sporting event, the infrastructure will be temporary, with all the costs of installation and removal met by the Games. The Club’s new stadium will be purpose-built as a football stadium for generations of Everton fans to enjoy, keeping the intimate atmosphere and close-to-the-pitch feel that our games are famous for. The running track, and other Games infrastructure will be temporary in nature and will not permanently influence the stadium’s design, capacity or configuration."

Like Hampden Park.

Hampden Park was built in 1903

So no

Reconstructed in the 1990s.

It's the shape of stadium required to fit an running track into: shallow raking stands.

Well you're wrong again; redevelopment started in the 70's and finally finished in the 90's. But let's look st the comparisons shall we:

A 114 year old stadium, redeveloped between 40 and 20 years ago, rejigged to accommodate an athletics track 3 years ago, is comparable to a brand new state of the start stadium designed from scratch. Let's not forget the improvement in technology and materials.

I think you can both but it starts at home with the supporters who can go to the match every other Saturday. I don't want Everton to lose its soul, and I'm American. It's one the reasons I support Everton.

Local support is the most important support. Asian and African fans change clubs faster than a six pack of Jesus Juice at the Neverland Ranch.

Point remains though track size is a constant and there is no example of a track being fitted into a tight football stadium, be it one yet to be built or a 100 year old one.

Not saying it cannot be done but it would need movable stands and/or a temporary configuration like the Etihad.

Mick A, spot on. If you look at the footprint of BMD in the Buro Happold document that got leaked it is near as damn it a physical impossibility to fit a running track into the site on the North-South axis proposed for the stadium even if we assume some elevatedtrack/retractable stand combination.

I'm not an architect but given the site dimensions the only obvious way I can see to do it is orient the track E-W and leave one stand (East) unbuilt until after the athletics. If we can spend more money it is technically conceivable that the East stand could swing back like it is hinged or swing open like stable doors...but it would surely be very expensive.

For me this is not about pessimism/optimism about the club in general it is just the realistic geometry and dimensions of the site.

Don't talk stupid. We all have members of our own families who come from Liverpool and support them. Years of more success have given them a far bigger fan base than us, international AND local, whether we like it or not. It will take as many years to turn it round as it took them to turn it round from us. I personally find it repugnant to ridicule the people of our city whether they be blue or red.
