New Everton Stadium

I can't see it being like the Allianz as copying or paying homage to another stadium is hardly inline with the rhetoric coming fron Dan Meis i.e. evolving from the docks and paying homage to Leitch. Also we're supposed to be getting something original.

I think the hints are there by Meis on Twitter that it might be an American football stadium type design which suits me. Dropping hints of 60,000 and a photo of the US Bank Stadium.

His statement on the Meis website along with the remit from Elstone (who is the one who first mentioned a massive home end) plus key elements in the recent 11 Key Principles makes me think we're going to get something 'completely different' to other football stadiums.

So maybe a nod to the photo's of the US Bank Stadium a few pages back. Which until last weekend (Superbowl) I didn't know it existed! A derivative in a soccer stadium / Goodison Park design might be on the cards possibly with a roof as that's a first for the PL..

I think he has already said that there would be no full coverage roof and if the leaked documents are to be believed we have already seen the shape of the bowl and nothing screams out NFL. (smaller ends and larger multi tiered side stands - our design looks like it is fairly uniform height all the way around)

So unless they are throwing in a lot misdirection I can't see it being like that.

Yes I know he's questioned whether a (retractable) roof is needed but I think it bloody would be on the waterfront!

I'm not sure what 'leaked documents' you refer. I've only read on the presentation he did with sketches which were clearly not BMD and also those designs a few pages back which were nothing to do with Meis and also some of the pics were from a fan competition. Not a believer myself that we will get a bowl he's already spoken about that a while back.

By bowl I mean the interior seating area not the shape of it. It looks to be a tight rectangle, corners filled with maybe one single tier stand as per spurs ground.

The leaked document was the Buro Happold one which looks like it had the capacity/one bigger end/stand profile etc. so I guess this is going to be close to the final design.

^^ And of course also the exterior images of the stadium in "Commonwealth Games mode" which were real renders. How far the design has moved away from that since they were created nobody knows, but I doubt it's moved into US Bank Stadium territory!

All in all, the leaked documents, images and Key Principles document give a good idea of what the thinking is. A squared off bowl (open corners would be useless on the waterfront) with a normal roof (as Meis said on Twitter), a big window along the side for the corporate lot to gaze across the water, and a home end (as promised by the club).

We do have to outdo them on capacity, I don’t care if it is petty. Tottenham went 2k bigger than Arsenal.

Show we mean business and go 65,000.

I like the sentiment but the bigger the capacity the more expensive the final seats become. It costs more to build seats high up in the gods and they have the worst views and subsequently you get to charge the lowest prices for them. Building those costly seats with the lowest return also means we would have to take on a bigger debt and means we would have less money to spend on players for a longer time frame.

Personally I think it would be more sensible to go for a modular extendable Stadium of around 50k, pay the debt down more quickly and as the revenue streams increase extend the Stadium. At the moment we only sell out because we have very cheap season ticket prices especially for younger fans.

It might not be as exciting but it is more financially prudent and puts the future of the Club at far less risk. Especially when you take it account the groundswell of support for safe standing.

We sell out because the demand for tickets is there. Ticket prices should be cheap for kids btw and long may that continue

Yeah this is on the last page from GwladysBlue; the link was about 4-5 months ago - I don't know who Buro Happold are but they are not Meis so not sure if it's reliable. Don't forget this link was released with images which were of course someone's designs from a stadium design competition. Of course it would be folly to think Meis hasn't got a design he's say so that they won't release images until they know they can deliver.
