New Everton Stadium

Chill out fellow Evertonians- this was to be expected. The city cannot afford to leave the North Docks as it is just to protect a heritage status. It was always going to happen, and I hardly think the club and council would have gone this far without assessing the likelihood if this happening. It must be a sacrifice they are willing to make. Many posters have stated the WHS may go and it is not because of the stadium - it is because of a lot of changes that have been made by Peel to the original Liverpool Waters vision. The stadium is a only a small part of the reconfiguration. I understand the scepticism, but a few need to stop being so down on the club and show a little more faith.

You are right we need to be more upbeat, lets take the positives, its Friday and we got an update albeit from the BBC
` Nothing will ever be the same `

Unfortunately, the faith reserves are running a little low after decades of broken promises - especially around stadium moves

I'm not going to moan about the club and get too down on them - but at this moment in time a new stadium would be a lovely surprise rather than an expected outcome

The only way that World Heritage status is retained is if this stadium scheme is ditched.

We are nearing endgame.

Where in that article did it say the stadium has to be ditched to keep Liverpool as a WHS?

If it was right next to the Liver building I might have agreed with you, but at the very far end next to a waste water plant not so much...

The only negative that comes from this is if some people are right and Moshiri/Usmanov wanted to make money from the LW scheme, then this could stop them building their own version of Trump tower. Can lots of lower rise buildings compensate..

'Developer Peel has now said there is "no likelihood" of the project being developed as originally planned'

Death by a thousand cuts - Not sure if this is the first or the tenth

UNESCO are very unhappy with the plans for the north end docks and the council are in reverse gear mode it looks to me.

Throw in the personal credibility of Joe Anderson crumbling with each passing day and you dont have to be a rocket scientist to see the trajectory of where this is headed to.

Doubt it due to the added cost

It's not even an Everton thing, they will basically block any attempt at regenerating what has been for a long time a derelict site which no-one uses or cares about who live here. The vast majority of us would prefer big developments happening but we'll get cut down buildings that look rubbish and ruin what could be a world class waterfront, all because people from outside the city want something to look exactly how they want it despite them almost certainly never wanting to live here. If UNESCO are so worried about the development of others then perhaps they should be asked to put up the same amount of money to develop the area or have them find the investors willing to create their vision.

The reality is that UNESCO have been ignored in places like London because the city is powerful enough to tell them where to go when they try to block investment. While you can understand them being worried about certain things going on in the city and specific areas especially there's got to be a point where someone actually stands up to them and questions why they're going so much out of their way to prevent development on land that would otherwise sit empty and public access continue to be restricted anyway.

Absolutely spot on. Does anybody, anywhere, actually give a toss what Unesco think about Liverpool? I bet you could count the amount of people who visit Liverpool because it does have 'World Heritage Status' on one hand.

The council should tell them to go swivel and push ahead with Liverpool Waters - if Peel produce anything like what they have proposed it will attract people from all over the world - many, many more people than are attracted by some pointless status 'given' to us by some nomarks.
