Thats why 54,000-ish is nailed onThe only benefit to building a stadium with a smaller capacity than Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, Liverpool, Man City and Newcastle etc will be that it’ll cost a little bit less in the short-term.
Very shortsighted.
This all day...especially the last bit.I thought the point of football was to win games.
Would you rather have 60k stadium and win nothing, or a 55k Stadium and win a couple of cups? Bit of a no brainer really...
...At the end of the day, stadium revenue is peanuts to top clubs. Most revenue comes from sponsorship, TV money (CL and Eu L etc), and worldwide marketing. These things only come from success on the pitch first.
The top clubs aren't successful because they have big stadiums, they have big stadiums because they are successful.
Not as many pubs and chippies for a startIn no way whatsoever is Stonecross a better location for a stadium than Walton.
In no way whatsoever is Stonecross a better location for a stadium than Walton.
Only Everton could build a new stadium smaller than Liverpool’s even before they do another extension. 52k would be an utter death knell.
A huge part of football is size envy. The strive to be the best, to be bigger, to win more, to have more fans, to have that stadium prestige.
For that reason, 60000 versus 59999, means far more than 1 seat.
All the top 6 either have or have plans for a 60,000 plus stadium. We want to be competing in that group so naturally are building a smaller stadium? If size didn’t matter, why do the 6 most successful clubs currently all want a stadium above a certain size?
juventus moved to a smaller stadium and have won the league every year since,52,000 would also be smaller than Newcastle’s ground. We would be a laughing stock.
And would it really make good financial sense to spend half a billion Pounds for just 12,000 more seats?
Just because I agree with @Gareth Gibson on this one;juventus moved to a smaller stadium and have won the league every year since,
i wonder if milan fans take the piss out of them for having less seats?
