It will always be like a house with an extension built on to it. It might work and do the job but 1) Will never be as good as a house built and designed from scratch and 2) Will always look too big for the area that it's on.
My visits to premiership grounds around the country prove this to be totally wrong. The redeveloped and improved grounds (eg Villa Park) are far superior to any of the new ones. Even the Emirates (which is the most impressive new ground by a LONG way) in many peoples opinions isn't great (some like it, some don't)

Plus they normally end up more expensive.
Maybe, maybe not. The point is it can be done in stages. When I asked an architect about this he said the first stage "could cost a tiny fraction of building even 4 bog standard stands on a new site"
