New Everton Stadium

I think a current capacity of 54k-55k with the potential to rise to 62k would be ideal.

If the current proposal were to go through it is hardly a million miles away from ideal.

The ability to increase capacity in the future is key for me.

That's down to funding....or lack of.

This could mean one of two things:

1/ the club are actually in a position to get that past planning and able to secure funding for a stadium of that size (in other words, it's very hopeful things will be green for go)

2/ it's an announcement meant to deflate the fanbase and gently row back from a commitment to this scheme, allowing them to cite fans being underwhewlmed by what's possible at BMD.

To be honest this makes sense to me, a couple of things need to be factored in that make the 52k a better option initially

1. Planning permission, the smaller capacity and design innitally of the proposal on an iconic site, the more likely it is to get granted
2. It meets the needs of investors/funders a smaller site mitigates risk to investment, but also has the appeal of maximizing profit should the market prove to be there.
3. Innitial cost, a smaller capacity is likely to be lower.
4. Future proofed, can be increased up to 60k+, should the market prove there and capacity can be increased.
5. Mitigates against risk against not getting crowds of 60k.

Things are never black and white and you need to accommodate flexibility, i would have been disappointed with a lifetime limit of 52k, but the fact the designs are future proofed up to 62k, its likely the best outcome holistically.

Something tells me you might be leaning slightly towards option 2 Dave! lol

That 62k option is a bit of a get out of jail card.

Let’s wait and see before mass fuming things could change. At least it wasn’t a flat 50k

Have to catch up. Was really gobsmacked at 52k but agree it's a saving grace saying can rise up to 62k. Guess part of it is testing the water re our potential increase in support. And future success. Plus the new stadium/location itself.

I dont get the angst over capacity. Its much more important to secure an iconic, well built stadium on a site of such global importance. Revenues will flow from it regardless. And Everton couldn't sustain home gates initially of 60k with likely ticket prices in 4 years time.

It's just a nob measuring exercise.

I agree mate.

Better to be realistic and full. We don’t want an EmptiHad do we?

And let’s face it, we’ll want to expand so why fume?
