New Everton Stadium

Can we shut this thread now? Its so depressing and clearly there will not be a "New stadium" or a "debate". The club keep saying "if we had the money......" "if the council loan us the money.......".

Its like when you say "if I won the Euromillions......" but the chances are, 1 in 116,531,800.

I agree. This debate is going to take a generation to begin at this rate.
Close it down until we get any real movement from anybody!
It would have been closed down as a jarg rumour if it was a transfer target.
Clearly there is no debate happening. Just false expectations of handouts.

You can build 50k seat stadiums and still avoid being a soulless bowl. My colleges stadium sit's 65k and is still generates a very noisy atmosphere. It was built in the 60s but was renovated about 10 years ago. Though tbf it had a lot more room renovations unlike Goodison (no houses, businesses adjacent)

I'm guessing there's little or no roof on that?

Two and half years since this thread was created and STILL the club are going around in circles.

The owners never have and never will raise the money to bring the club a new ground - so GET OUT and hand IT over to someone WHO CAN !

Relax, it's only a year and a half mate, it just seems like two and a half !

Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, has said that he hopes Liverpool City Council and Everton Football Club will be able to make an announcement on a new stadium for the club within the next few months.

Speaking to our Everton Podcast, lifelong Evertonian Anderson said that the club and the council had been working hard together in order to develop a scheme that would suit both council and club.

“We’re looking at a number of offers from the club, and we’ve made offers to them as to how we can help progress things,” said Mayor Anderson.

“There are a number of sites that we’ve been considering and we’re doing all we can.

“I’m sure that reasonably shortly there’ll be a discussion and a debate taking place between ourselves and people of the city about something that we’ve been working on.

“I’m optimistic that we’ll be able to put forward a suitable solution within the next couple of months.

“The council will work with the club to look at how we can support them, not necessarily in a financial investment in the club, but perhaps in the same way that we’ve done with Liverpool.

“We’ve invested quite a substantial amount of money around the area [of Anfield] and I’m sure Liverpool Football Club would be the first to admit that.

“We’re working with Everton and I’m confident that we’ll be able to put a proposal forward shortly.”

No Groundshare

When asked about the potential for a ground share with Liverpool Football Club, Anderson was determined that both clubs have their own proposals that are so far advanced that the idea of a share is now dead in the water.

Adding that he would have been behind such a scheme, he said, “I think it could have worked, it’s not going to work, but the thing that I want is for both clubs to be successful and have money coming out of their ears and buy the top players without worrying about a groundshare or whatever.

“But if it saves you tens of millions of pounds a year and you can work together then I would have been supportive of it.

“But it’s not going to happen. The proposals from both clubs are so far advanced now that it’s academic, so let’s move on from that.”

So at a time the government are on the verge of slashing Local Authority budgets by a further 30% the Everton board are blaming the council for lack of progress?

On a different note, I'm not too keen on taking the club further away from the city centre (not that we'll be moving anywhere anyway).

Everton FC and Walton Hall Park Project – statement from the Mayor of Liverpool
November 24, 2015

There have been a lot of media reports today following the information presented to the Everton FC AGM last night.

I was disappointed that people were left with the impression that the council and other partners were not fully in support or part of a true partnership. I don’t recognise that view.

As Mayor of the city, I wish to set straight some of the issues which were not communicated to last night’s meeting.

Many people would love to see a new stadium, new housing, a better park and new community facilities at Walton Hall Park. Some would prefer the park to remain the way it currently is. All of which are things to consider but the facts are that:

– delivering what Everton FC refer to as “the Vision” requires in excess of £300m which Everton cannot yet show that they – or anyone else – have available.
– there is no regeneration scheme in place.
– there is no developer in place.
– there is no planning application.

Once these are in place, of course we will support, facilitate and work together to move the project forward, in the same way that we did with Liverpool FC for their recent the Anfield stadium expansion.

Some people seem to be forgetting that it is not the job of the council to finance and deliver a major regeneration scheme of the type proposed, including a potential new stadium for Everton Football Club. Nobody should be in any doubt about the horrendous financial situation that the council is facing.

Let me re-iterate, we would welcome a regeneration scheme to consider but the fact is, at the moment, there isn’t one. That is why there is no real progress to report.

It is sad that Everton FC chose to question mine and the Council’s integrity and commitment publicly. As a city we have helped Everton with Finch Farm and took the controversial decision to support a regeneration project with a stadium on Walton Hall Park. The evidence of our commitment to supporting Everton is there for all to see.

As Mayor I am totally committed to helping, within reason, this project if it meets the wider regeneration needs of the area or indeed any other solution the club may propose.

I await sight of those plans.
