New Everton Stadium

I love the idea that Moshiri bought Everton on an impulse. He was out with the wife and saw a football club going for a few hundred million and thought "I'm having that" with no plans on what he was going to do with it.

Looks like he has a plan to me Dave. Even if he isn't broadcasting it yet.

Replace 'Red and White Holdings' to 'Moshiri's Investment EFC' and you get the drift.

He's not going to come in and start mass sackings. He'll just ensure as staff are turning over his staff come in. I don't think you are being realistic on this. He's not going to unnecessarily disrupt the business. As any good capital investor would do.

Bear in mind the context of these assurances: a bitter struggle for control. None of these people are the traditional butcher, baker and candle stick maker that used to take a paternalist interest in running the local cultural totem for kudos. Football clubs in our league are going to be involved in debt in some way, shape or form. Expect no free lunch from Moshiri et al.

No one prepares to spend £200million and does it on impulse.

There are some very decent indicators that EFC is a terrific investment opportunity.

The stadium is one key issue that means that the value of the club can balloon if it is done properly.

If Moshiri has money burning a hole in his pocket that is one area that he can convert liquid into bricks and mortar and it be win-win.

His 2012 open letter gives an idea of what his financing views are. Keep any debt away from the club.

I for the life of me do not expect long term that Moshiri will be the only investor in such a plan.

To be honest if you recall all of @The Esk 's articles on the need for capital investment input - Mr Moshiri was the perfect type of investor.

His open letter of 2012 is absolutely the sort of model that will suit EFC down to the ground.

Excuse the pun.

Even if I'm yet to convince @The Esk that we need a 60,000+ tier 1 stadium. My plan is to wear him down.

;)

See previous post.

He's going to keep any debts well away from the club. It is also obvious any such debts will be offset by him by selling some of his shares (at increased value) to other investors. In the 3 to 5 year timeframe.

I think that is his plan.

He'll still be the major investor but he will have turned EFC into a TIER 1 club with a TIER 1 stadium.

Offset construction costs / investment - by a share dilution.

I said "I love the idea". Perhaps he just likes the colour blue and he couldn't stop himself.

Cannot vouch for reliability but got told we are investigating feasibility of acquiring land adjacent to FF to enable some expansion.

As for the "plan". You don't become a billionaire without an ability to see and sieze opportunities or by telling the world what you are up to. It makes sense for Moshiri to take his time, make sure he has all the facts and then act.

We already know his to-do list included invest in squad, new/redeveloped stadium (it will be new) and funding existing FF plans. For now we just have to be patient.

The time to moan would be in a year if we are still without a stadium plan and have made no net investment in the team.

@bizzaro what level of pricing would we need to charge to increase "walk up" spectators from currently 5 - 7,000 to around 20,000 per match?

I think they could include a number of strategies that wouldn't make shed loads of cash but could increase numbers. Eg unemployed for a fiver ( with id) Make Everton the 'students choice' while they are studying here a tenner with NUS card to stop abuse of the system. I mean we get what is it 50000 students into the city? Think the 95 kids season tickets is brilliant and must continue. Ticket giveaways to local schools would also help increase attendances, but all these would hopefully increase the fan base growth

Isn't that land for the new U21's stadium? Similar to what City have built. So no need to play at Southport anymore.

Great idea about the student choice. If we built on the Mystery it would be on their doorstep. Re-open the old Sefton Park train station.

What is the definition of a 'Tier 1 Stadium'

I would class it as a stadium of > or = 60,000 seats with a substantial (5000 minimum) hospitality section and with excellent facilities (food, drink) excellent views.

A stadium that can be used for multiple purposes (NFL, Rugby, Concerts, Hospitality and Conferencing, International football) so that it generates substantial 24/7 revenues.

Transport links are important and even if they are not immediately available form part of the long term part of the stadium planning for continuous improvement.

Obviously location for a Tier 1 Stadium is critical.

To be a Tier 1 football club. You need a Tier 1 stadium.

Our competitors are building them. 50 to 55k stadia are yesterdays news.

We need to build something for future generations with a capability to expand to 70k plus.

@davek

Let's keep it real. I'm Blue to the bone. We need to be thinking 15 years from now about our future.

Mr Moshiri hopefully will be thinking along the same lines. Above all he should not do a Randy Lerner. Splurge all our capital on mediocre players on ridiculous salaries. Moshiri is the game changer when it comes to infrastructure building.

100% agree. This is my point too.

Don't build for now. Build for now AND 10 years from now.

We need to ensure if we through our glorious leader are to spend big we are doing it in a way that means we don't face the exact same issues 5 years from now.

I'd say we would easily sell 40k season tickets under right conditions. The only reason we are not now is restricted views/lack of hospitality.

Improved transport.

Improved pricing.

Improved facilities.

We could easily do 60k

That just isn't true though is it? We have a hardcore support of about 30-35,000. There are obviously a section of our support that can't afford to attend many games and the obstructed views also don't help, but like every club, the extra support will come from good results and us winning trophies. The only way we would sell 60,000 is if we get sustained success. We haven't had anything like that in 30 odd years.

50-55,000 initially would be suitable with a view to expand to 60,000 if needed. I do think the fanbase is there, so don't think i'm trying to do us down, but just because we want to show ambition doesn't mean we should make any stupid decisions and build 10,000 more seats than are needed at present.

We've always had one of the biggest supports in the country as shown by our record average attendance, record attendance and away support, but we need the success to justify a 60,0000 stadium being built. Take the RS for example. They're only confident increasing to 55-60k because they know they now have enough out of town band wagon fans who have latched on to them over the years through European Cup wins and constantly being in the CL in the Premier League era. Historically that would have been a risk for them with their low 61,0000 record attendance and their highest ever average attendance being less than 50,000, something we have dwarfed in the past when we've been successful.

I like the idea of doing some different things to attract more supporters as well like student offers etc. We've already played a blinder with the cheaper child tickets meaning that while the RS have priced out most of the local fanbase, we're still making it affordable for the younger generation to support our club.

I'm looking forward to hearing what Moshiri has planned.

So you're saying we are a smaller football club than West Ham, Spurs, Manchester City and so forth?

As I would say it is true that we could fill a 60k+ stadium

As have several other posters who agreed with the tiered pricing structure principles.
