New Everton Stadium

USM paid an astronomical (unprecedented) amount just for first dibs on naming rights.
By unprecedented you mean "convenient". i.e. exactly the same amount needed to get the club out of a FFP hole. lol

Hopefully the planned naming rights deal itself wasn't massively overinflated and it can be plugged with other sources and/or a different naming rights partner.

I look at it this way. Surely an ever-present PL club with consistent 40k+ crowds in a market where broadcasts rights are still shooting up can manage this project without someone like Usmanov? You're big enough and ugly enough to pull this thing off. Get this beautiful thing built without any grubby associations. And I reckon that'd be better in the long run.

I'm staying optimistic for ya'll anyway.

If things get back on track the sponsorships will start up again, if they don't we've got bigger problems than football to think about.

I disagree that it's either things go back to normal or doom and gloom.

We're in a new normal. imo Russia will remain sanctioned for a good while, so these sponsorships are gone now. Forget about them. Get on with finding some new sponsors.

The stadium is still 2 years from being ready, the announcements say suspended and not cancelled.

There has always been an element targeting Usmanov and Abramovich and it was always possible sanctions could be levied, this has just speeded up that process. That is why someone who is British owns the club and Usmanov has always been the silent partner.

Spot on.
Even Usmanov knew that there could be future problems which is why he doesn't own us and 'officially' we are owned by his "friend"

This is from an interview on Russian TV with Usmanov back in 2018

Businessman Alisher Usmanov is considering the possibility of becoming a shareholder of the Liverpool football club Everton, the investor of which is his long-time partner Farhad Moshiri. "Everton are still far from where they should be. We will also help him. Oh well. It's my friend's club!" — said Mr. Usmanov in the program "Actors with Nailya Asker-zade" on the channel "Russia 1" (quoted by "Interfax").
He added that the purchase of the club is associated with "a huge number of nuances", the possible deal may be affected, among other things, by the international political situation. "In the UK, sport is an overly political, so to speak, sphere. There is a huge tension in business today.

Do you ever wonder if old lady Goodison is angry.
Back in '94 we tore down the old park end and were almost relegated.
about 10 years ago we put a huge mural of martinez on her side and he went to crap.
Then finally we get the go-ahead for BMD. Her end is nigh and she's not going down without a fight.
Since we got permission
Madrid poached our manager
We replaced him with the worst option imaginable
We cant even mention our #10
We get the worst ever VAR call
We lose our ground sponsorship on the back of a foreign war.

I'dunno, she seems angry to me!

I'll say this: if - as looks likely - this new stadium doesn't get built, we are finished as a top flight club.

Not just revenue wise but also morale wise and the dashing of the dreams of a generation of fans.

We are going to be floored by any decision to mothball this. It was our only feasible way forward and if it's denied us then we will fall away dramatically and tumble through the divisions.

This could be the beginning of the end for us.
Not finishing the stadium would put us in a worse situation financially than if it did get finished.

A contract has been signed. Laing O’Rourke would take us to the cleaners if we broke the agreement.

Give it a test ffs !
Davie Davie quite contrary !
Keep munching on that humble pie fella. Other options are available for EFC.
