New Everton Stadium

Yes, the roof is very high above the stand, which is of quite a steep rake too. This of course also means that the rows of fans fall further away from that reflective surface quite quickly. Therefore only a relatively small proportion get any great acoustic effect, with the bulk of the stand essentially shouting out into open space. If that proportion is high enough, it will allow chants to propogate effectively, but it doesn't really look that way in cross sectional views. Wembley suffers similarly.

The arched roof and cranked corner sections will however have some acoustic enhancing effects but not sure how much. The large end stand at Spurs has some similar deficiencies, but is deeper and bigger capacity. The South Tribune at Dortmund should've probably been the ideal benchmark. This has a slightly downward pointing roof with a small apex towards the rear, which pools much of the noise and allows chants to spread across the whole stand, encouraging the whole end to join in and project it out onto the pitch. I think the design proposed for WHP actually was better in this respect.... with a larger home end and better roof angle.

The initial BMD stadium was east-west and also had a bigger home end. The current BMD home end is 60 rows I think.... which is only approx 2 rows more than the Gwladys upper and lower combined. Of course it will have greater unity as a single tier, but it's not the mega-home end originally promised.
So basically the new stadium is not going to generate the atmosphere which everyone was told was one of the biggest and most important aspects of the new build. The home stand is barely any bigger than the one at Goodison too.

With this in mind I think I would just prefer to stay at Goodison. Its hardly much to look forward to now if it's just going to be an average soulless new stadium. I was expecting something like the new Spurs stadium but with everything focused on atmosphere.

It is a big home end.

It’s well over twice the size of the Park end and it’s capacity is 2500 bigger than the Gwladys Street (before any potential safe standing increases in future which could take it up to 15k capacity)

It’s seating capacity is the same as Villas Holte End.

As you can see by the image, the Holte end is that big that they have to use 2 goals so all the fans can see.

Thanks for pointing that out. That puts it into perspective. That's also without even mentioning that the facilities on the concourse will be 10 times better than what we have now, bars, cafes, toilets etc

Some atmosphere last night in the new Spurs Stadium.

watching the NLD, that Spurs home end has lost all novelty now imo. Doesn't look intimidating or seem to generate any sort or atmosphere.
Was watching and have to say the noise generated was very loud, even the commentators were stating it, although i think it may have been a snidey jibe at us lot due to the coverage we have got from Leicester etc, they cant have us being the best!! This may alos be my Blue Tinted specs too as it was loud and im sure not ALL the media hate us????
Impressed with Spurs stadium to be honest, looks and sounds great.

Yeah it was mate. I've been in there and it was scary at time. But the whole match day experience seemed better somehow. However, there was an official capacity I'm sure of it.
Yeah, 'official' was very different to 'actual,' I imagine!

My dad used to talk about switching ends at half time, so he was always behind the goal Everton were attacking. Seems mad to think about today.
