No, Stockport’s ground pretty much backs on to the river. If you look in the picture, it passes right behind the stand.

I’ve just checked and that bit of water is actually a little man-made body of water The Mersey is just under 1km away.

Knowsley United were on the banks of the Alt but are no more.


It's nice for Liverpool to be able to claim a famous river they're in the proximity of.
