New Everton Stadium

The thought of not owning our own ground sends shivers and immediately reminds me of how Coventry City could go from owning and playing at Highfield Road for 106 years (34 years in the top flight) to a new stadium and end up being homeless and ground sharing in the lower divisions.
Seen the issue popping up regularly now as well. Derby have had issues with stadium ownership, im sure Sheffield Wednesday have as well.

All i've seen re: Sheff Wed / Derby was problems as a result of it.

Whether the individuals in charge gained more money from it rather than the club gaining more from it, I dont know.

Coventry is the prime example why you cant let your stadium be at somebody elses control.

I have posted about this before. I wonder if Moshiri might get the money back he has so far invested in EFC if he were to pay for the stadium and then sell the football club and keep BMD, renting it back to Everton FC on a 99 year lease or similar? He'd have a cash cow which he might even decide to sell on and EFC would have a new home which even though rented generates far more money than GP did do and makes them a more prospective prospect to a new owner.

More likely, he would set up a holding company, pay the club for the ground and take rent (though there is already a seperate company set up for the ground i think under the auspicious of the club). If he ever sold the club he could hold the stadium company.

Not saying that will happen, but it has.

Hughes' piece has a lot of holes in it, and ultimately feels like a way to take swipes at the club as a Kopite. Where's his reference to the stand that bares the name of a manager who defended a racist across the park? Ah no, can't mention that.

The club moved on from calling it Bramley Moore a while back, but yes, it is an opportunity for education. You can't touch the wall that has "BRAMLEY MOORE DOCK" carved into it, so use it as a way to teach, which the club will most likely do

Add a plaque, like the city has done for many of the other places named about slavers and continue to teach people

I did say long ago that we as a club needed to take over this story and address it and get out ahead of any controversy. For that I got a load of stick.

Now what's happened? A Kopite hack like Simon Hughes who's written loads of books on his beloved reds has positioned Evetrton as a club that has something to hide.

That whole piece btw was illicit from beginning to end. It hammered home from beginning to end that Everton have a responsibility (or 'opportunity' as they called it) to own this and acknowledge it. If Hughes wasn't the Kopite wrecker, he is then he'd have researched that article and KNOWN Everton FC HAVE addressed this and stated they WIOIL be commemorating the connection with slavery and condemning it and promising to remember it. Hughes KNEW that and chose not to mention it. He's a 'kin disgrace.

That was a hit piece that the club need to come out and react to ASAP.

They've already stated they would...Hughes undoubtedly knew that and never piped up in that whole piece of his or the half hour podcast.

Everton need to go after him and the Athletic and demand a clarification and a retraction.

It's just a piece that doesn't know what it's trying to say. It's fine opening people's eyes to the history of the site on which the stadium is being built, people need to know at the end of the day and learn about it

But you weave in stuff about "Merseyside's historic issues with racism" and then only use two examples which relate Everton, it's a bit agenda-y
