New Everton Stadium

Time maybe to repost this from a proper journalist. Just for ‘balance’ like.

And this too:

We have nothing to defend. What we will have is a beautiful football stadium on the banks of one of the most famous rivers in the world

The whole argument over this BMD naming and 'taking responsibility' and 'using the opportunity' could easily have been put to bed had they actually approached the club to discuss it. By doing that they would have known about the plans I believe the club has, which actually outstretch any suggestions that were made in the article/on the podcast and, go so far as to explore the role of the docks in the entire history of the city including connections direct to slavery, slave enabled trade and how the docks enabled the immigration of such a large Irish contingent. The plan is to tell this through the eyes of prominent figures in the club. For example, how much closer can the club tie itself to the will of education on difficult subjects than having Seamus Coleman narrate videos and/or displays on the Irish community and their struggles such as the potato famine, or Alex Iwobi do the same for videos/displays on the horrors of slavery and it's connection to the city and, maybe, more specifically the very dock we have filled in, rendering useless for its original use, and re-purposing for good and local prosperity, not just the prosperity of the richest individuals.
Everton should be celebrated for that fact. That they didn't seem to take that approach, I'm afraid, leads me to the only conclusion in my mind that some individuals involved in that piece were seeking to add negativity to what is a hugely positive step forward for our city. A step that is being taken not to obscure or avoid the difficult truths of suffering, but to finally make good of their remains, to drive change in the visibility of such difficult and often under discussed subject matters.
;)
That divvy Tony Evans of such reputable publications as "The South China Morning Post" was ranting last week that the only people pushing the agenda of JFT39 were Tories and/or Evertonians.

That it was, and will sadly remain, a travesty of justice holds no meaning for his like.

He actually describes himself as "Hooligan" in his Twitter bio, amongst other things.
He was moaning the other week about how the writing work is drying up.

Perhaps if he wasn't such a scrappy doo little knobhead he'd get a bit more respect outside of all but the most rabid Liverpool supporting out of towers.

He's finished as a 'journalist.' I wouldn't be shocked if he launches a 'scouse academy' to make ends meet.
It was a hit piece on our new home by a kopite berk, nothing more nothing less, and to those calling Evertonians offended by it “sensitive” is very offensive.

The editorial team at the arthritic should take a long hard look at themselves for publishing this nonsensical, inflammatory drivel. They claim to be an independent sports publication with no bias, but this gets the ok?!

There are a couple of Everton journos on the books you would think should have got the green light to pen anything to do with the club, but they give it to that Hughes whopper? They must need to be playing up to their American subs with such rubbish.

Even funnier - the two Everton writers working for the arthritic retweet the link to the hit piece ffs.

Any self respecting blue should terminate their subscriptions immediately, and the club should ban them.
I binned off my subscription a few months back (even that was painful to accomplish).

I forget what the tipping point was but it was some Everton dig wriiten by Hughes.

By the logic of those who seem to be jumping on the BMD bandwagon I reckon the River Mersey, by association as the main access/egress route for the slave ships, could well fall foul of this hysteria and needs to be renamed ?

I think we need to brick up the mouth of the river and fill it in.

Also better change the country's name while we are at it seeing England was synonymous with slavery.

Saw the site last weekend. Really came on a long way from the last time I had been over last March.

It's going to be great, but I love Goodison too.
I love Goodison for its old school charm and the nostalgia factor of going to games with my dad as a kid.

But Goodison, in my lifetime, has been home to terrible team after terrible team, with a grand total of one trophy to show for my support. I've maybe been 150 times in my life to a game there.

We should have moved 20 years ago, but finally we will and it can't come soon enough.

Things I don't like about Goodison:
  • Too many obstructed views
  • Terrible food and drink options
  • Massive queues for the above due to cramped conditions
  • Going for a whizz is a terrible experience
  • Rows are too close together
  • Poor public transport to the ground
  • For the club, doesn't generate enough revenue
As a non season ticket holder, I don't have the extremely deep emotional attachment to the ground as many here do. I imagine that would be very different if we would have had trophy winning teams play there during my life, but that's sadly not the case.

Unfortunately the people in charger had no ambition or money back then.

people should stop giving into woke, this happened years ago, we cant change a thing
I don't see it as "woke" it's more deciding on whether to continue keeping the name alive. For instance, statues are built of ex players, to celebrate their history with the club and keep their name/status alive.

I don't know anyone who has an attachment to "Bramley Moore" so why would it be a problem renaming it to something that isn't tarnished? Not everything is woke. Sometimes, it's just nice to be able to not continue with things that were decided when the world was very different.

Personally I'm indifferent to the name changes. At the end of the day, 99% of the public are none the wiser as to who these people were and what they did. That said, if it does offend people then there's no real reason not to change it. The history of the name and the dock structure is well documented and can put on display (or archived) at the club museum. Are we getting a museum?

Regards all this talk of changing the name of the dock etc, does anybody think the pub over the road which bears his name will/should change its name? Genuine question.
