…yep, born in Leeds. Seems his slave trade wealth was earned whilst living in Brazil. Stood as a Tory in Liverpool & wasn’t elected, thankfully some things haven’t changed.
I do believe Liverpool City Council was Tory up until the the 70's (or was it the 60's?).
I think by calling him a divvy you have summed up this Pratt perfectly mate.That divvy Tony Evans of such reputable publications as "The South China Morning Post" was ranting last week that the only people pushing the agenda of JFT39 were Tories and/or Evertonians.
That it was, and will sadly remain, a travesty of justice holds no meaning for his like.
He actually describes himself as "Hooligan" in his Twitter bio, amongst other things.
Stadium tour! Wanted to show the kids around before it’s too late.Why they training at Goodison? Some open day thing?
I’ve just listened to this… wish I hadn’t.
They are talking about an opportunity for Everton etc etc. At one point I heard George Floyd mentioned. It all seems a bit forced to me and they seem to treat Liverpool people as if we are thick.
Anyone from Liverpool will know about the slave trade and how our port was one of the most used ports for the import and export of slaves. Bramley Moore as a man lived what? Almost 200 years ago, to say times have changed since then is an understatement.
It’s almost like they are talking a load of nonsense without actually saying what they want the conclusion to be. My own conclusion is that of course slavery was bad, however it was acceptable at the time, and massive business. We can’t just forget about the name ‘Bramley Moore’ because it has slave trade roots, we might aswell re write the history of the city. In my opinion the stadium should be called the Bramley Moore Dock, I think anyone who finds this racist or condoning racism needs to get a grip. Things are different, times are different, however the site is called Bramley Moore, end of.
I don't think the term accountable is what they are advocating.It's a cheap shot at Everton FC.
Part of me thinks Everton don't need to say or do anything but it's the right thing to do for Everton to acknowledge BM and what his role was. But equally
there's only so much we can say or do. This is about a stuff we can't change. It's history. It's part of what Liverpool is built on part of what the British Empire is built on. It is a bit narrow minded to hold Everton accountable. I also think stuff like taking his name out is like rewriting history, whitewashing. If Everton were not moving, or not moving here, what would be the story then? Empty dock slave trader. #historyofthePortofLiverpool
The fact that O'Keeffe and Boyland the 'Everton' correspondents retweeted it is more of an issue.I wonder if in 200 years they will say the stadium was built by a mostly white work force, therefore it’s racist. I would if anyone with any Russian involvement ever will be seen almost as bad as someone supporting the Nazi’s. The point I’m making is that until you become part of history, you aren’t one. The history of John Bramley Moore had some slave trade involvement, it’s happened, it was ages ago, educate people not tarnish. However, the articles and athletic voice interview just seems all over the place.
I think what they are trying to say is;
‘Everton have bought land that was named after a man involved in the slave trade, therefore racist and therefore Everton have to do everything they can to distance themselves from that man and create their own history there’.
However, not one person actually says this. It’s seems a big bundle of everything racist that’s happened in the last few years, balled up and booted Everton’s way. Why even mention George Floyd? Why? Something that happened in America, recently, involving Police. Nothing to do with the Bramley Moore dock, nothing to do with football, nothing to do with England. Racism, yes, but completely off topic.
