New Everton Stadium

The original Kings Dock design was heavily influenced by Schalke's ground. I remember that Bill & Gregg visited it.

With the Echo Arena in situ I think it is unlikely we would want the cost and complexity of the sliding roof & sliding pitch designed to turn it into an all-purpose arena. However, if the city did decide there was scope for a >20k arena for bigger events than the Echo can host then the Veltins arena remains one of the better models out there.

Frankly if we got a traditional football ground at the waterfront with some clever combination of e.g. retractable seats, raised floor etc. to also support athletics, concerts etc. that might be the best cost/use compromise...but only if it is a football stadium that can be modified for other uses and not vice versa.

If JA on behalf of the city are thinking of using the stadium for The Games etc then should they not part finance the stadium?

Lads, it's on

That's gonna be pricey so your right they should but they won't. If we can do a deal on the land and build a football stadium (the best we can afford) and JA can regenerate SC with a Commonwealth games stadium.

We should let them host the rugby sevens or something at a waterfront stadium but a running track would be a nightmare.

....I think/hope the timelines are different. The City are indicating they will bid but I suspect it will be sometime before a decision is made. If anything, LCC will probably use existing stadia to support the bid (including ours if it's through the design and into developement stage).

Then how about some financial support?

Has anybody discussed the 'gypsy' site towards the north end of Costco yet? I believe after using the land free of charge for many years, they actually bought the land and set up residence there.

...I can't see how they can support if we start the build before the City gets the games. I might be wrong on this but perhaps EFC would make monies from the use of the stadium as opposed to building it.

They support the new stadium, in the docks, we sell them Goodison for the athletics stuff, and temporary use of the new place for whatever they might need it for.

If they are that sure we will even get them, they will have a stadium at their disposal. If not, let them knock it down and build whatever they want.

...that's a sensible scenario. When you say 'they support the new stadium in the docks', I presume you mean from a governance rather than a financial perspective.

Would they really want to use goodison for athletics?

Yep. Nods on planning, infrastructure, that sort of stuff.

Lets face it, it would be an attraction to folk to visit the city.

It already must be the only city in the UK that has them brown signs on the motorway with "Football Stadia" on them.
