New Everton Stadium

Would they really want to use goodison for athletics?

Dunno. But if they need an athletics stadium for some mythical games they might host in 10 years time, they can have one.

Or pay for our new place to be converted for a month, then converted back.

It really shouldnt be our problem. Unless they lob more than a few bob at the building costs. Which they probably wont or cant.

Lads, it's on

ah ffs, Liverpool have nipped in before us

it's OFF.

For those of us older Irish Toffees who plied the Irish Sea in the 70s and 80s to follow Everton on the old B&I this might be of interest - I knew we used to dock at Trafalgar and then at some stage it changed and we moved further north. From a site on the B&I history:

"IN 1983 THE B+I WERE FORCED TO MOVE THEIR PASSENGER SHIPS FROM TRAFALGAR DOCK TO BROCKLEBANK DOCK BY THE MERSEY DOCK CO., WHO WERE LOSING £1 MILLION A YEAR KEEPING TRAFALGAR OPEN. ON THE 18 OCTOBER 1983 THE CONNACHT MADE THE LAST SAILING FROM TRAFALGAR WITH THE LEINSTER MAKING THE FIRST TRIP TO BROCKLEBANK."

The original Kings Dock design was heavily influenced by Schalke's ground. I remember that Bill & Gregg visited it.

With the Echo Arena in situ I think it is unlikely we would want the cost and complexity of the sliding roof & sliding pitch designed to turn it into an all-purpose arena. However, if the city did decide there was scope for a >20k arena for bigger events than the Echo can host then the Veltins arena remains one of the better models out there.

Frankly if we got a traditional football ground at the waterfront with some clever combination of e.g. retractable seats, raised floor etc. to also support athletics, concerts etc. that might be the best cost/use compromise...but only if it is a football stadium that can be modified for other uses and not vice versa.

I think it would be so foolish not to spend the extra money on a retractable roof and pitch. Without it the main stadium would probably get used about 50 days a year. This gives it an option for it to be used every day.

The Echo is still far too small to host major events and big acts. If we had this there would be events on all the time, we would be coining it!

Just curious, why is the preference for stands vs a bowl?

Don't like the 4 stands stadium concepts as i think its tired and dated, also not seen a genuine world class stadium with the traditional 4 stands but that's my opinion as loads on here will agree or disagree

if the bowl shape i.e corners filed in is done properly why are spectators further from the pitch as some have mentioned ?

most world class stadiums conform to a variation of that shape as its the most efficient use of space capacity wise for a stadium. Especially if you have a limited foot print

That is a class 4 stand stadium.

4 stands with corners filled in, not a shaped bowl. Dortmunds stadium: It has a league capacity of 81,359 (standing and seated) and an international capacity of 65,829 (seated only). Cologne's stadium (top) holds 50k, 8k standing.

It can be done fine.

The Allianz proves a bowl can be okay, but you don't get the same feel as a four-standed stadium. I like where I sit in the upper bullens because you feel on top of the pitch.

Replying to myself here, but this is the old Munster at Trafalgar about 1981 (it was replaced by a bigger and much nicer Leinster around 1983). We had some pretty rough sailings on this little lady but the bar always stayed open until about 1.30 a.m. and we would then get a few hours kip before arriving at Trafalgar around 7.30 a.m.

Slightly off topic maybe but I thought you might like to see Trafalgar dock when it was in use.

Is the building with the chimneys still there or is the whole area flattened and ready for development?
