New Everton Stadium

Well much of that goes back to the original site selection process. Stonebridge cross was far less suitable for club and owner on several counts, and of course one of the original schemes for BMD was an east to west configuration to help accommodate a commonwealth games bid, with 60k+ capacity and all the extra funding that would include. When that bid failed, we reverted to the traditional N-S layout and a lower capacity.

Yes, there is now some asymmetry due to the dropped level at that end. However, I doubt that would be there if space wasn't restricted. Then the main contrast between both ends would merely be one being single tier and the other 2 tiers (as at GP). As with the Aviva, it would never normally be a design decision to have such a smaller stand and so distant from its roof.... this is entirely due to site constraints.

My assumption is the drop in that stand was due to Meiss wanting “the biggest screen in Europe” during his talk at St Luke’s which obviously got shut down.

Looking at the layout there’s no reason they couldn’t accommodate an over hang like they have for the south stand.

Any idea what this bit getting prepared for here is (juncture of north and east stand)?

One reason might be "right of light" incursions for the adjacent business property if that end was extended to its full depth... Another might be external circulation at that end, as I'm not sure if the boundary has been extended temporarily for construction access only.

It could be symptomatic of Dan Meis' origins. American stadium designers are often less concerned with our traditional football stadium layout. Look at Wembley with the screens carving out huge sections in the end stands.... areas that would normally be hugely popular with the most vociferous section of the fanbases. End zone stands at American football are often much smaller or reduced height affairs, as their game's dynamic and culture is so different.... and they do sometimes seem to like a portal window looking onto downtown landscapes, but that hardly applies in this case.

Is that tower going to be functional, or is it merely a heritage-fuelled renovation?

I hope we don't get taken over by Saudi's and the tower ultimately becomes a place where our diabolical owners publicly hang 'tributes'. That would be very unsavoury, and not in-keeping with the Club's identity.
Functional. Cultural use I believe. Maybe some Everton related museum?

I think it's a nice substitute for St. Lukes, which has always been a great feature of Goodison.
